For me, second album would have been a masterpiece if the band had kept the "screaming voices". (Miss them in Surf Solar for exemple)

Still, Space Mountains / Flight of the Feathered Serpent are mind blowing...

This. I mean, judicious use of the vocals, though.

I really like FB and I'm very interested to see how they develop. And it's great that I can throw Tarot Sport on in road trips and let some noisiness wash over me without having everyone else dive out of the car. The fact that they're texturally interesting but in the most pleasant way allows them to fill a vital playlist niche, and that sort of thing is underrated.

Meh, I prefer Tarot Sport so much over Street Horrssing or whatever it's called. I reluctantly listened to Tarot Sport after hearing the debut, but was very pleasantly suprised.

Guest iamabe

I got Street Horrssing and Tarot Sport a few months back and could barely listen to a whole song by them...

But thanks for bringing this up, Kaini. Listened to "Olympians" and man is it a cool track. I think I just have to be much more patient to listen to them. I don't quite dig the super dramatic/M83 style progression, but it's still really gorgeous and the percussion is pretty fucking great. I'll be listening to them more when I get home.

Very much enjoy these guys, live and album-wise. Took me a while to listen to them because of their horrible name, but that's about the only thing bad I can think of really.

  • 3 years later...

(Finally!) having a blast through the first album as we speak. Really into the 2nd and 3rd album, Slow Focus, is in my opinion immense, heavy as hell but catchy. I can see why people may not be into them much, I think you clearly know which side of the fence you're on without indulging too much time lol.

I was not expecting screaming vocals!! Sounds like Death Metal IDM. Gonna check that Blanck Mass stuff out later too..

I've only just gotten into these guys. It's my favourite riding music at the moment, riding into work I listen to Slow Focus, the pummeling drums of Brainfreeze is a great way to get pumped to start the day. Riding home I listen to Tarot Sport, there's a lovely bit of synchronicity there as Olympians tends to come on right as I'm riding through the olympic park. Basically perfect to ride to as it's all a consistent pace, very hypnotic too.

Lovely, basically.

Fave tracks are Rough Steez, Lisbon Maru, The Red Wing and Sentients

The first album which I just breezed through is pretty 1D.

I think the first track maybe explains everything you need to know. Cool track though.

I agree. Although the new one continues to reap dividends.

Here's a random question, does anyone have the demo mp3 version of "Sweet Love For Planet Earth" ? I actually liked it more than the album version, was like 7 minutes too, not 9+

I can't find any trace of it. I had downloaded it from pitchfork way back in late 2007

Oh right on. It was pretty cool to listen to and compare with the later version. It had same basic structure but completely different recording, sounded more like a live take (especially the percussion coda) and not multi-tracked. The synth build-up was a bit more dynamic in terms of volume.

Anywho, I lost it with a hard drive failure years ago
