Guest disparaissant
ever since i first listened to ariel pink, i've sort of been attracted to that lo-fi aesthetic that he's got going on. everything about it appeals to me on some level, even the "sometimes trying too hard" aspect. i pretty much eat up anything that sounds like it was recorded on a cheap teac 4 track in 1988. and i don't even know why! some examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nN5iYMiazr8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2NQByp791c http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYLDPsUjpL8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKegOVenoBg anyone else like this kind of stuff? got any recs i might not have heard of? mcbpete
Jeez louise, that Nite Jewel one I didn't make 1 minute through - It's waaaaaaay to hipster-ish for me (and I've been accused of being a hipster myself) Matrix Metals "Flamingo Breeze" ? Guest disparaissant
matrix metals makes me want to release a tape if you didn't make it a minute you missed the best part! either way, hipster or not, she makes some ridiculously nice musics. Guest Masonic Boom
I dunno. My sisX0r put out an album of this kind of thing on Ecstatic Peace, but I have to say I just don't get the fetishisation of this stuff. It's like... we spent all of 1988 recording on a 4-track wishing we had more tracks and better equipment. And now people come along and *try* to sound like that? I think its because of the honesty that came with the simplistic sound, smomething like that. People who just try to sound lo-fi arent really the same, imho. But to make it clear, some were really awful, e.g. that Ariel Pink track Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/57349-lo-fi-weirdness/#findComment-1356300 Share on other sites
ericsosh
I fucking love Nite Jewel. It's a perfect mix of ethereal voices on funky beats. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G494Ur2jNOw Shame she hasn't released an awful lot just yet, but it seems like there's some official collaboration stuff with Dâm-Funk going on right now. As for Geneva Jacuzzi, I think that shit gets old really quickly, but it's fun for a while.
