RDJ song names

That interview is kind of infuriating, because he contradicts himself every three paragraphs or so, but hey, no one ever said artists had to be consistent. That whole schtick of "I'm so totally above celebrity ... but let me boast about all these famous artists who are totally gagging to work with me" is kinda eye-rolly, silly indie boy. (It's always interesting to see how he recconciles that whole information wants to be free hippie stance with I want to get paid for my music thing but he's not the only musician who stumbles on that one.)

Also "Cornwell". Um.

rabid hero worship whereby the status of a mere (highly talented) mortal is elevated beyond messianic to the point where the devoted masturbate furiously over their protagonist for essentially mashing together other peoples records in ableton instead of performing his own, or dissect and analyse every sound and artefact within the music , obsessing over numbers and names, fantasising that if THEY got that fenix, then THEY could do that too... right the way through to making skin-crawl-creepy fan art and disturbing porn fan fiction and discussing the idiosyncracies of archaic cornish dialects and how many tenuous willy references the object of their worship makes.

it's all kind of boring.

In all fairness, I just thought one particular sound that Richard D. James used sounded very pleasant (as it did when Mr. Fingers used essentially the same kind of sound earlier), so I was wondering how it could be made in case I could also use it to good effect in a few of my own compositions. Evidently James himself must have wondered how it was made when listening to Larry Heard, and worked it out. Gaining inspiration from others isn't a bad thing as long as you have multiple sources. So yes, you shouldn't just try to copy James, but my latest soundtrack drew more inspiration from Vangelis and Zimmer so I think I'm pretty safe in this regard. I'm guessing most, if not all, of the different people here have other artists they look up to besides James, but this is a forum to talk about him specifically, so this is where we go for conversations about him.

i'd flipped through your flickr account some months earlier and recalled a vast array of nicely colored, if unnerving RDJ fanart. i was going to name the song "sneakybat" but i googled it and "sneaky bat" is apparently a cybergoth band. i can't risk being seen as cybergoth, so i simply had to rename it. i guess it's like the ghosts in mario 3, yes? always sneaking up behind you. stalking in the grass. after i had the name "acid stalker", your flickr came to mind. i flipped through it until i found an image of the desired caliber. i do enjoy a good psychedelic rainbow fibbonacci paisley sort of of fing, but that rdj at the red center of action is a might unsettling
