Fincher in vitriolic humor mode is usually pretty amazing. I have high hopes that this'll be as funny as the first half of Fight Club.

what did that have to do with fincher? it was all in the writing.

I'm sure the pitch was "Everyone is on facebook, so everyone will want to see this movie"... but I suspect they've widely overestimated the number of people interested in startup culture.

That said, this will be a hit with the venture captial / tech startup / blogger crowd. (even if it's terrible... especially if it's terrible.)

SO that would be 1/3 of the internet population that has a facebook. How is that small?

Sorkin is writing, and Sorkin can be insightful, although I'm not really a huge fan.

I really loved the detached, matter-of-fact, info-overload style Fincher was starting to bring to the table with Zodiac, which I think is his best and most mature film by a long shot (I haven't seen that one about reverse-progeria). This could be a good chance to expand on that.

But that teaser made me pretty disinterested.

Baph you are wholly cool. For starters mentioning Sorkin, then moving on to name Zodiac as Fincher's best, expertly avoiding the by now cliched and wholly uncool teenage angsty Fight Club. But to bypass the movie's name (Benjamin Button) and solely mention with big words the intricate film matter. Marvelous! You get the days prize of coolness and intellectua...ality

I still think its hilarious that because some know the basic story of who/how facebook started, they think this film will be boring. This could be one of the more thought provoking films this year, reflecting our current culture/generation, and probably not in good light. This one feels like its going to more akin to Fight Club, but founded on a true story.

what's with the last 2 fincher movies looking like they were extremely desaturated in color? his previous movies like The Game, Alien 3 and even Fight Club had what seemed to be a much more distinct visual look. The Game specially made excellent use of all different types of lighting.

He normally uses a different cinematographer for all his movies, but he brought back Jeff Cronenweth for The Social Network. He was the ASC for Fight Club.

Well, his two last movies are somehow "period" movies (Zodiac and Button), he took a lot of the fluorescent lighting out of them.

Basically, Fincher likes Yellow + Black / Green + Black and fluorescent lighting. The Game/Seven/Fight Club/Panic Room all look like that.

Zodiac is an hommage to All the President's Men.

Alien³ was all reds but that's for the gothic/industrial age aspect
