There is also the Japanese Katsu Don which is breaded cutlets of either pork or chicken cooked with fried egg, onions, green onions and served on a bed of rice. Sometimes comes with a bit of mushroom.

Also awhile ago at a greasy spoon I had the Wakey Wakey Burger which was a 8 Oz. patty topped with three small scraps of peameal bacon, cheddar cheese, mayo (which is made of egg) and a fried egg.

Katsu Don is healthier, but the Wakey Wakey Burger is the ultimate in North American-style fast food.

Ah yes - I forgot the Japanese do eggs on their food quite well too - egg is a common Ramen topping you can get in Japan.

This is debatable. They are tasty as hell. This much we know for a fact.

This, xxx, is dear to my heart. Dear to my fucking heart.

Curry, even a bog standard tikka masala, can be improved by quartered lightly boiled eggs on top. You could even serve a bowl of them alongside a sweet thick and oily Thai curry, like a geng gari, or a Malay rendang.

Here in Chicago, the fried egg topping fad has already come and gone :/

that's one thing i hate about the chicago food scene, is the seeming "fads" that come and go. i get some things, like trotters, but really? fried eggs? food should be the easiest thing to form an opinion about without depending on a collective movement to tell you what is the "right" thing to eat. it's fucking fried egg and as such should never be faddish. it's practially a necessity.

Fads are weird anyway -- with so much access to media reporting on what celebrity actors wear, or what celebrity chefs put on a plate, you get a 'fad' or 'trend' out of two or three people doing the same or similar thing. So I don't think the fried egg fad was self-consciously adopted as such by most chefs here, but that you all of a sudden become conscious of it as something you see on a bunch of menus around the same time.

Now, the real reason to resist the fad would be when it's overkill, and I think I agree with you that with a lot of *real* food (I mean burgers, pizza, hot dogs, pasta), you can't go wrong by putting a donk egg on it.

eggit: actually, what your thread made me think of was this thread from my local "Foodie" forum: http://lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=28508

Hey fellow Angeleno, where do I go for that? I got the other ones down already:

Egg on Pizza: Mozza

Egg on Bibimbap: Tofu-Ya

Egg on a Croque Monsieur (=Madame): Anisette

Man, fried egg on a burger is totally the way to go.

There is a place by me that puts spicy mayo, fried egg and a slice of grilled pineapple on a cheeseburger. It is totally insane.

In Wisconsin, I once had a greasy cheeseburger with a fried egg on a croissant for breakfast at this cafe. I came in my fucking pants.

see i never understood that personally. almost every non-franchise burger place where i live does this and it kinda pisses me off. there's a time and a place for bacon and eggs and it is NOT in my god damn burger!

i really burned myself out on eggs last year. that said though, i really love fried eggs with sriracha and parmesan cheese. uhuh.
