I was just joshin, I definitely have heard the difference decibels+time has made on my cans, there's no doubt they sound warmer and richer now.

everywhere I've read they say you should have the headphones getting slightly more decibels than you would want to listen to (unless you like your shit jacked waay too much usually)

I just repeated an album with a good amount of bass, mids and highs really loud but not distorting my cans when I wasn't using them for a few weeks.

at the moment i'm looping the new squarepusher 12" and plan on doing so for around 10 hours. it's bassy and dynamic so i think this is a good thing. next time i'm away i'll do the playing music for a weekend thing.

I got a sound card that has two headphone outs, one is muting and the other is non muting. I just always have my headphones plugged into either one of them.

its definitely not nonsense, I had some HD280's for over a year (I did lots of burn on them intentionally and unintentionally) and I knew how they became to sound very very well. My monitor fell on them from blasting too much bass without an abortion pad. Anyway I got a new pair that same day and I could definitely tell a strong difference between a brand new pair. The brand new pair sounded in my best words I can figure:digital, sterile, bland and harsh all at the same time. finally after burning them in for a month or two the warmth, richness, detail and enjoyable natural of the cans finally returned.

lol kneejerk reaction to a subject i have no knowledge about....what the fuck...i have no idea what i'm talking about yet i'm still gonna have an opinion that is diametrically opposed to what is actually the case.

ridiculous clueless nonsense.

agreed. I don't doubt the existence of "burning in" but it makes such little difference that 99% of people that claim to notice it have no idea what they are talking about.

lol generalising statements - they generalise.

it's total bollocks for audiophiles. I have just been reading a headphone burning-in website (www.burninwave.com) which actually suggests you also "burn in" your cables

seriously, read the website - never heard so much complete and utter crap.

you "run in" engines and other mechanical things with moving parts in order to seat and lubricate things. headphones have no moving parts. and don't try to tell me the diaphragm is a moving part. it isn't.

and another thing...

any half decent make of headphone will have likely been through hours of testing during the manufacturing process anyway.

plus, does anyone else not see the utter stupidity of buying some headphones, plugging them in and leaving them alone?? just fucking put them on! surely they will get nicely "burned in" (if you choose to believe in such things) just by actually like, using them as headphones for a couple of days?

anyway, fuck it, burn away, have fun.

osc: basically you're just coming off as one of the 99% of people I was referring to but you're too closed minded in this case to admit that you might be wrong about any benefits of burning in.

EDIT: not saying you necessarily are, just you seem so dead set that BCM is wrong to the point where it looks like you are in denial

just noticed this. I hate audiophile crap and it angers me. people can be such sheep over this kind of thing and start thinking it's like, an important thing to do. it's not. it's complete horseshit.

edit: *calms down*

I definitely understand this subject like a lot of little audio beliefs are very polarizing and I have read both sides of the argument. I'm also not a person that like to just believe things because a lot of people do, in fact I'm often quite the opposite. I sincerely believe both of my hd280s got most definitely warmer after a month or two of use. There are a few records that I listened to when I first got both of for testing. Most notably I can strongly tell the records with very distorted guitar sounded pretty harsh before the cans had lots of use. I most definitely can attribute that I could tell a difference of harsh/rich warmth with my HD280s listening to records with massively distorted guitar before and after lots of use.

what i'm saying is that too many people on watmm, including myself, have their own bias towards certain things...

fact of the matter is this - maybe you can't hear the difference between a record stylus that has been burned-in or hasn't / headphones that have been burned-in or haven't / a valve amp that has been left on for 5 hours or hasn't. but some people can. and you will never know whether they're just saying that they can or not because you can't hear for them.

stop telling people that they're wrong just because you think they're wrong.

sometimes we're all like fucking religious zealots.

i would just like to point out that this statement is scientifically wrong.

electrons move.

fuck this, we're all dickheads here who know it all.

and i'll be the first to admit that i can sometimes come across as an opinionated fuck. but in this case, i think some people need to understand that just because you personally can't experience something, doesn't mean that someone else can't.
