At this point I'll also point out Gilmour's post-72 guitar work is my least favourite thing about Floyd.

(Basically, I don't think this is an album for me, heh)

well, that's just, like, your opinion. man.

Yeah it's my opinion as well but I think we won't get much understanding here :whistling:

Entitled Metallic Spheres, the record is split into two parts: a Metallic Side and a Sphere Side, each of which is made up of five movements. According to a press release, the idea for the record came about when Paterson, Gilmour and past Orb collaborator Martin Glover (AKA Youth) all worked together on a cover of Graham Nash's "Chicago" for a charity project. Paterson and Glover were so happy with the results that they decided to keep working on it until they had an album-length product. However, a recent post on David Gilmour's official blog (not written by Gilmour) claims that the famed guitarist's involvement in the project was limited to just one jam session, at which Paterson wasn't present.

The post reads: "as it turns out and as you can see, the result of that jam session has now been spread across the next Orb album, Metallic Spheres, which will be released as 'The Orb featuring David Gilmour... So there you have it. He was working on an album with The Orb. Sort of.'"

seems gilmour is not that much involved in the project. shit, i don't understand this now. better wait for the album and have my conclusions.

the samples on his website don't sound very "sort of"-y. sounds very dave-y, which was the complaint above, iirc

i am listening to this and REALLY enjoying. but i can't feel the 3d60 sound effect at all. maybe there is something wrong with my ears.

maybe it only works well on headphones? dunno still waiting for my local shop to get in the deluxe...

i listened to it on headphones, precisely as it was recommended.

but maybe a couple more listenings will grow the effect on me.

The 3D60 thing is unsurprisingly crap, but the most notable thing about it is that it's a different version of the album. Some sections are different mixes, some are entirely different. Gilmour's vocals are absent on Metallic Side and it opens with a droning section (the organ coming in after a few minutes), and lots of other stuff I haven't taken in yet. It's less guitarry on the whole, I think.

I enjoyed the album. Not a classic but quite fun. Would probably be more enjoyable if I still smoked weed.
