Recommend me some of the scariest movies you've seen

wtf Event Horizon is not scary, it's cheesy as shit, same goes for Cube, only it has worse acting. Fairly enjoyable movies nonetheless.

Check out Salem's Lot

The Thing is a good one if you are alone and turn out all the lights, same goes for Alien

Okay, so I'm back with my Event Horizon verdict.

Yeah, very thick layer of Hollywood action movie cheese slathered all over this one. For about 20 minutes or so in the middle when shit first starts going haywire there are some genuinely creepy and disturbing moments, but it gets very ridiculous very fast and loses whatever it had going for it. It's good for a few gory space-hell snapshots, and I enjoyed being reminded of playing Dead Space on Xbox. Instead of watching this movie, people should play Dead Space --way scarier, and you don't feel dumb while playing it. Better yet, watch Alien. That movie got it right.

Danny Boyle's Sunshine is like a good version of Event Horizon without the cheesy elements. It's got its scary moments too, but it's mostly just a good film. And the soundtrack by John Murphy almost sounds like Murcof at certain points.

I really hate the last third of sunshine, I don't see how it's any better than event horizon's lame ending.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

I know it sounds ridiculous but Sunshine wins me over with its style. The last 20 minutes seem weird compared to the first hour and a half, but the style of the movie (visual, sound, music, characters and so on) helps it not falling apart like 'Resident Evil in Space' aka. Event Horizon does.

I didn't like the ending bits that much either when I watched the film for the first time but now I think it's like an appropriate showdown, regarding both story and visual style. What makes the look of the film even better for me is that all of these lens-reflection and distortion effects were done live, using mirrors and various constructions, no post effects. And

sunshine would be like a 8/10 for me if it weren't for this guy

his whole persona and appearance annoys me, not sure why, he just looks extremely douchebaggy and lowers the rating by atleast 2.

Are we talking about Herzog's version? If so, fuck yes. Definitely a must-watch horror classic.

i've not seen any of the remakes. but i do love the original nosferatu. iconic!

and because of this thread, i watched Martyrs. i wanna say i enjoyed it, but "enjoy" just seems like an inappropriate word.

I know what you mean. I love Martyrs, but it's a hard film to recommend because it's hard for some people to look past the violence and see an original, well shot and brilliantly acted film.

I have this with A Serbian Film too, it's not a bad film, but because it's so insanely distasteful I can't decide whether I like it or not. Because basically everyone watched it for the controversial scenes it doesn't really get boring... So is it good? I can't tell.

anyone know any good movies that takes place in hell, or has got anything to do with hell (the christian version that is)? and not some artsy fartsy interpretations, im talking about the classic old school dante kinda hell.

there should be more campy movies about hell. :diablo:

Hellraiser (the first one is the only one i like, and the 2nd, while cheesey, does actually venture into hell)

The Devils Rain deals with a sort of hell, and has loads of satanic imagery and worshipping. Also there's a scene with a lady under hypnosis and i love the sound of her voice and the words coming out of her mouth all deadpan.

I'm probably the only one, but I like all the Omen movies except for the modern remake. they are all a bit cheesey and not that scary.

Prince of Darkness scared me lots the first time i saw it, but not so much now.

Exorcist is excellent

i even liked Exorcist 3, mostly

Shutter (2004)

Messed me up for a few days, never seen the remake.

I saw this and I guess because I've seen most J horrors from around the time it didn't affect me... Which is a shame! I did enjoy it though.

I'm trying to think of some scary films.

Inside had me on edge, but I watched it at home alone, so being that it's a plot about a break in, it naturally resonated with me.

At the time I've only had watch Ringu, which I thought had a great atmosphere but wasn't scary at all, the american remake for once was great.

Yeah man, LOVE Ringu. You're right, the remake was better though for scares. It scared the fuck out of me when I first watched it.

The guy in the water pointing with the cloth over his head freaks me the fuck out though, that's a mental image that just gives me the creeps.

Fuck that shit.

I like the others and the changeling, as well as a bunch of the stuff mentioned already. I usually don't find gory movies scary, but a l'interieur/inside is tense.
