oh, my bad about loose rein. still, i wanna hear it.

how can itunes charge $1 (is it even more now...?) for a track that isn't even CD quality? if all the tracks together for a typical album is $10-15 (about the price of a CD), then shouldn't we be getting the EQUIVALENT quality?? i'm not an audiophile, but logically that just doesn't make any sense. i've also seen that once a track gets over 7 minutes, it's album only download. even if it's not a bonus track

3rd session is up.

guys,

anyone has any idea on how to rip the audio from the original sources? because they do sound very good (both nytimes, the guardian and the japanese one) and i dare to say even 320kbps quality.

someone managed to rip the first one and upload to yt, but there is cleary a quality loss:

i really want to keep these sessions. they are like an additional mini album.

using a firefox extension i d/lded the first and third session videos and extracted the audio. mp3's have the same quality as in the video.

i can upload them later if you guys want.

still haven't found a way of getting the second video from the nytimes.

Have you tried an addon called DownloadHelper? Even though it's very heavy and I keep it disabled whenever I don't need it, I'm not sure if I've come across any piece of video or audio yet that it CAN'T download. Edited by 40days

wow sorry if this has been mentioned already in this thread but the Wire magazine just tore this disc a new asshole, the reviewer refused to even mentioned the album title because of how much he resented it

to defend the reviewer a little bit i can see where he's coming from. Since Eno has become a famous producer and worker for hire for companies like Microsoft his own personal output has been overly polished to the point where it is almost indistinguishable from his commissioned material. i will say the reviewer seems like he set out to knock eno down a few pegs, probably because of how overexposed he is and lets be honest he's credited with a lot of things that he shouldn't be credited for (like inventing ambient)

well who do people point to for "ambient?" am I totally off base in thinking that he coined that term? Obviously what we call ambient had existed in some form in various areas of music but to codify elements into a specific genre seems pretty important, no?

as for the album.... eh it's ok. a little fussy... and i like fussy music. I thought his last solo was better.

it is precisely the one i use.

the nytimes is the only site i can't download from :(

there is actually a way of getting the second session: recording the audio via audacity. but i can't find a way of configuring it to record streaming audio. i think the soundcard isn't allowing it.

if some of you guys has audicity, please make a brother happy and record the session

he coined the term as far as i know but beyond that i don't think he codified anything noteworthy. 'Ambient' was a very common sound present in most krautrock music in the early 70s as was modern classicial minimalism in the vein of Pauline Oliveros. He is well known in music history circles for his role in creating ambient music but i think it had more to do with his notoriety as a producer. people who are more famous in general get credited for things that others did before them.

first track sounds like an unreleased Nobuo Uematsu outtake

Pauline Oliveros was my mentor in college. She is so nice and took an interest in my music making. Only after college did I realize the influence she had on modern music. Nice to know others here appreciate her!

im super jealous of both of the above posters. Six was mentored by Pauline Oliveros, one of the founders of modern minimalism and Dr Lopez is now being mentored by my favorite experimental composer Alvin Lucier. you bastards!

Haven't read the thread but is there anyone who thinks that this album is shit ? I do. And mostly the production is. Awful sound (specially the drums), uninspired tracks.

Ich don't think so

So have many people got their deluxe editions yet? I'm still waiting on mine. Wondering about those extra tracks and hoping their in keeping with the rest of the album.

Haven't decided what to do about the iTunes fiasco yet.
