I was fascinated by this one. They kind of just follow him around as he gets fucked up and records. All around the time that his shit was blowing up.

i bought it off amazon back in the day... the info isn't bad... and i liked the idea... but they didn't use a SINGLE musical example in the whole thing! i don't know if they couldn't be arsed with licensing or what... but even when they're talking about the techniques used in the studio... there's nothing. no technical demonstrations.

it was vaguely interesting as a historical lesson, but that's about it.

granted, i may have gone into it expecting something different... but IMHO, music documentaries should include more music from what they're documenting, and less shoddily thrown together loosely appropriate quasi-score.

not putting down your suggestion... i just remember being REALLY annoyed by this... not to mention i posted a review on amazon to that fact which mysteriously disappeared when i put my tinfoil hat on.

Weird, I just watched it last night, and yeah it was a good one!

'Insurgentes', filmed and directed by Lasse Hoile.

Evolves around the British musician (and my biggest influence for some years now) Steven Wilson as he creates his 2008 solo album, the curiosity of the recording artist and how they get inspiration and features a load of negative comments on today's music culture.

Features a shitload of surreal imagery, very Kubrick and Lynch inspired.

DVD release has been pushed back to October this year.

I attended the world premiere here in Denmark at the end of last year and it was a great experience. It's probbaly a whole lot more interesting if you're a fan of Wilson and his work but can certainly also be watched without knowing or liking him.

One of the best docs I've ever seen, music or otherwise. Goes really deep into the infamous black metal music scene without re-hashing and glorifying the murder and church-burning incidents. And seriously, those Norwegians speak better English than the average American.

Rip had some good interviews and points (the segment on rock using Blues songs without credit was something NO ONE points out!) but I agree, it was fucking annoying overall. Girltalk isn't a fucking genius.

It also turns into an insulting advertisement for creative commons; there's a part where it's like "check out this cool CC-sample based remix made by a kid in Brazil"...oh wow, some generic world music loop with an amem breakbeat-BIG FUCKING DEAL! Between this nonsense and hipster mashup DJs, music will officially stop evolving, awesome!

Anyway, copywright criminals looks a lot better, I need to see it.
