Whats WATMM think of the new Audio/Visual Animal Collective film, Oddsac.

Bought this just today (the packaging is really quite nice). Haven't watched it yet properly yet, but it looks really quite enjoyable from the brief watching I did just earlier.

However, I'm not entirely sure I will or should even bother watching this without some psychedelics in my body first. From what i saw on my brief little snippet was this really really nice panda bear track around 4 songs in, with nicely trippy psychedelic footage of water and some boat on a canal. Then it fades into visual/audio noise. Which then fades into some ridiculous/awesome animal collective "feels"/"strawberry jam" style track, complete with some sort of hairy viking man screaming over warped psychedelic visuals. haha. Must save this Dvd for the right occasion.

I saw this in a theater when they toured it. Very very very visually stimulating. There's enough vagueness in it to let your imagination connect the dots. The scenes are unreal. Great music that intertwine with the visuals also.

Argh I've missed it when it was in Berlin... good to know you can watch it at home too.

it contains some of their best music so far, imo. mr fingers and tantrum barb are amazing. i love screens a lot too.

Anyone know if they are releasing the music? I don't see why they wouldn't (unless they don't like money).

they arent planning on releasing it separately. i think it stands on its own but i guess they want it always with the visuals?

I watched this last night for the first time and I was really impressed! I expected to hate the visuals but I quite liked most of it visually, although there was still a lot of bits that I thought fell flat. As far as the music goes, I agree it's some of their best, it was exactly what I wanted out of it, enjoyed it a lot more than the last album. I've yet to listen to it without the visuals and I'm sure I'll end up listening to it a lot more than I'll watch it but I have to admit that the visuals and music did fit together almost too well for them to be seperated.

You can get an audio stereo rip of the DVD if you search for it...

Listened to it without the visuals and it still holds up pretty good but I think I actually prefered it with the visuals.

It's a sweet album, it's like a mix of Here Comes the Indian and Fall Be Kind... lots of noodly ambient noise with a few moments of beautiful super happy tribal electronic weirdness.

this has aged really well for me. im still thoroughly enjoying all this music.

lol, i know but i beat the snot out of it when i got it. plus i listened to it without the visuals all the time. thats what i mean, its held up overtime without being part of the movie.

but yea, the internet makes things go by so fast.

not too many ac fans on this forum.. i guess a lot of people cant get past the whole 'hipsters listen to this and pitchfork likes it therefore i am not allowed to like it' thing..

it's also possible people just don't like it because it doesn't appeal to them?

no , you can tell when someone hates something after theyve given it a legitimate chance/listen or when they hate something based on what other people think of it or someone elses opinion on it, or their opinion on a group of people who like it. i have seen many people on this forum have that type of attitude towards this music.

however im not gonna dig up the threads

ok i just think it's interesting that because you like it you don't seem to appreciate the reality that many people on this forum just don't enjoy listening to animal collective on a purely sonic pleasure level. You have to make an attempted psychic observation that they must not like it because it's trendy.

the first time i heard animal collective i had never heard *of* them before, my friend played me a CD in the car and asked me 'do you like this? it's animal collective' i said 'it's ok' and that was the end of it.

Yeah the thing is... it's the amount of comments like "it's a load of hipster bullshit" or "it's garbage, people only like it cos pitchfork do" that make me agree with Max Mischief on this one. I also find it hard to believe that the same forum that listens to stuff like Gantz Graf and Go Plastic would dismiss AC as "noise".

People are entitled to listen to whatever they like so whatever but I still think those are lame excuses. Just say you don't like it if you don't like it!

That said, I can see how a certain kind of fandom can affect the way you see something. For example, I thought Avatar was an ok film, pretty forgettable but nothing too excruciating... but now that everyone thinks it's the best films since Star Wars I HATE IT!!! Hehehe...

the truth is that hipsters like some amazing music.

they just do it to look cool.

to dislike something simply cos its trendy is just as awful as liking something cos its trendy.

i agree totally but some people seem to take it very personally when people say ac sucks. they are a hot button topic for sure.
