Guest headonist
I'm looking to expand my collection when it comes folk music. Any ideas how to continue? So far I have Iva Bittova, Sur Sudha and Zakir Hussain. A mixture of East European and Indian. Please, no electronica/folk music hybrids. I want the real thing. The Green Kingdom
Do you mean "world" folk music or traditional English/American folk music- or both? posture
If you are in the mood for something different, try the psychedelic folk band Comus, the release First Utterance is a good one. remy marathe
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBpfdjpBniM i've been listening to this guy a lot lately. i guess this isn't folk at all, more gospel/blues. but there's something folky about it. bert jansch, nick drake, basically any of the english folk artists from that period in the sixties/early seventies. jackson c. frank has one of the more tragic stories i've heard as far as musician's lives go. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxOouYO5tY4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmDybuYTuoM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnmgT8syOxA Edited August 28, 2010 by remy marathe Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/59151-folk-music/#findComment-1403345 Share on other sites

posture
Yes, I LOVE Incredible String Band. At one point all I'd do is visit shroomery.org and listen to their discography while wanting to redecorate my place with all kind of rustic things. Still haven't done shrooms yet though, sadly. While not indicative of their early sound, I really really love this song: [youtubehd]cAjXCSD0sB0[/youtubehd] Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide posture's signature Hide all signatures LSN soundcloud last.fm Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/59151-folk-music/#findComment-1403469 Share on other sites

The Watersons are brilliant, my favourites. I just spent £50 on a copy of Bright Phoebus, which I highly recommend, my favourite folk LP and a top 10 all time album of any genre for me. Never been reissued, and might never be given the situation of the copyright owner. Radio 4 did a documentary about the album some time back. [youtubehd]5IGDXDOXRNs[/youtubehd] Hopefully seeing Martin Carthy live in October. In the last couple of weeks have bought 3 Pentangle LPs, 3 ISB, a bunch of Topic releases, a well rare Nic Jones, a couple by Bert Jansch (Moonshine, Transatlantic Sampler), some Euro-medieval and a bunch more I can't remember. It's all I'm buying at the moment really. The best of the bunch might this one though: Not often you see Cornish language folk.
