my fave folk group is the incredible string band

i first heard about them when boc name dropped them in an interview

they play psychedelic folk and i even heard they influenced the stones

their best album probably:

beatles and stones were influenced by isb in recording sgt peppers and their satanic majesties respectively. zeppelin are fans and claimed to have "found their way" after listening to hangmans. im a huge isb fan and play lots of their tunes. i like the 5000 spirits/layers of the onion best personally but its hard to pick a favorite the first three are wonderful...later albums are a little spotty but there are still gems. i cant get into much other "psych-folk" that forest stuff seems to imitate but lack the naive charm of isb. besides this my folk picks are bob dylan and skip spence. jug bands are cool.

their first album is absolutely beautiful, and seeing them live in a room of <100 people was one of the best gigs i've ever been to.

I can't see the youtubes, but most stuff posted here is nice.

I'll only add three, relatively unknown, albums.

Sibylle Baier - Colour Green

Simon and Garfunkel - Wednesday morning, 3 am

Leonard Cohen - The Best of Leonard Cohen (fuck yeah it's a compilation, 1975)

Seriously though, all three are essential listening.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

There is some great Scottish and Irish artists out there too, how about Dick Gaughan, an amazing guitarist and singer.

Saw them a few years ago in a really small bar just outside of Manchester, I can honestly say it was the best gig I have ever been to. The main guy and girl are a couple and they were so adorable looking over at each other when they sung lyrics obviously written for each other. Really lovely.
