Rhubarb appreciation

i'm sorry but am I way off the mark in saying that what makes rhubarb special is the reverb?

the chord progressions aren't really anything fancy. Hence it totally sucks on guitar.

it's the timbre of the track that makes it the best truly ambient piece of music ever.

Oh that... yeah I guess it works in a sort of cheap way... I don't find two young men bonding over a beer, reluctantly acknowledging the beauty of the sunset behind them, stuggling to keep things lighthearted in order to prevent any dreaded mushy sentimentality from breaking out, and basically trying to defend their masculinity at all costs, to be beautiful tbh. It feels fucking awkward to me.

lol

When I'm listining to SAW before sleeping, Rhubarb is usually the track that knocks me off.

I've also set my alarm clock to wake me up with rhubarb.

I think I'll finally be happy when I reach the moment in my life that it seems Rhubarb was written to soundtrack. Nothing will top that moment.

I'm writing some wanky shit on here tonight. But yeah. Beautiful, stunning piece of music, my favourite Aphex and in my all time top... five, probably.

I dont understand the Rhubarb hype really. Well its awsome but stone in focus is way better.

i'd say stone in focus is the centerpiece of the album

This is gonna sound so ghey, but I view Rhubard as a song that reflects the beauty within this reality, of physical existence, and Stone in Focus is something beyond that. Like, Rhubarb is the soundtrack to being on top of a mountain during a sunrise, and Stone in Focus is something I'd hear when achieving spiritual enlightenment. That's why Stone in Focus is the superior track...

...or something. Both are ambient at its finest, and like someone else said, they both have melodic lines you can actually remember.

haha this was a cool read.

rhubarb and stone in focus. both amazing.

in terms of favourite aphex songs they are certainly somewhere at the top along with various others, nannou has hit me lately, epically beautiful.

the other day at work, in this huge warehouse, the power went out at the end of the day, and where i specifically work, it went almost pitch black but there was ambient light in the distance, and this dude kept saying to get out of the rows and come out to where everyone was, but i decided to sit down and put nannou on, from my phone's speakers that aren't actually that bad quality for a phone.

the experience was surreal until the same guy found where i was and told me to get out the front, a minute before the song finished, cunt.

stone in focus is just so warm, and beautiful, and peaceful and calming.

i'd love to listen to it at night when it's a little bit cold and i'm sharing body warmth with someone special, maybe after a bit of weed or something.

rhubarb can fit so many scenarios almost too easily, it's so beautiful, like the most beautiful piece of music ever, some occasions it can be so sad, others are just intense beauty and feelings of peace and content, like a defining moment in your life, a moment of triumph, and you're sitting there absorbing the moment, while this song plays in the distance, loud enough to be appreciated, but not overpowering.

yeah i'm a little stoned now too.

Sadness overcomes me with Rhubarb:(, similar to Draun Quarter...but that's not the case with Stone In Focus.

But GUYS!! Stone in Focus is so freaking sparse! I can completely understand why it was left off the CD issue; it's 10 minutes of the same 3 notes repeated over, and over, and over...

For me at least, however evocative those 3 notes might be , there's far too little happening to call it a great RDJ track

Just discovered Stone in Focus and I'm speechless.

Rhubarb is a strong contender for my favourite song ever. Me and my friend sort of named our (currently dormant) animation studio after it (www.rhubarbzoo.com)... we tried to make the art work on the site reflect a certain kind of nostalgia we felt when listening to it (but also adding a bit of fun cuteness to it).

But definitely those colours come to mind when I hear this song.

I was surprised to learn that some people find [Rhubarb] depressing. I find it relaxing. A lot of the Analord tracks seem to have an undercurrent of melancholy, but SAW II's [Cliffs], [Rhubarb], Blue Calx and [stone In Focus] are like waves of calm washing over me... I never saw them as anything other than intensely beautiful.

Great post :sup:

Rhubarb is truly an astonishing piece of work, what I love about the piece is that it manages to magnify some of the strongest human emotions... feelings of contentment, relaxation, hope, even grief are all present for me in this song, all this from such a simple arrangement (in terms of structure and instruments used.)

A truly beautiful track which I will never tire of.

This track always evokes deep feeling and meaning, no matter what my mood. It always makes me reflect on how i got to where I am and what I need to change.

I heard a guy say "this chord is expensive" on a documentary. In a joking way. It was a complicated Jazz chord. I thought it was funny too.
