I need some SP mind blowing solo bass

hey

i don't know the first thing about Squarepusher. But there is this guy I know who believes he is the fastest 8 string bass player in the world, who I happen to have regular aquaintance with. He is, of course, a metalhead. And a bit of a wanker. He is always crapping on about himself and making conversations awkward. Supposedly making conversations awkward on purpose because it amuses him. He also think's he's amazing.

And yes, he believes he's the fastest 8 string bass player in the world. For those unlucky individuals who aren't aware of the 8 string bass, its a bass with guitar strings of an octave up attached right next to each bass string.

Anyway, this guy and I were hanging out and he mentioned something about bass playing and I decided add to the conversation, so I go "Have you heard of an artist called Squarepusher?". He says no, so I continue "He's this experimental electronic guy. He makes, like, crazy techno. But he's also this crazy bass player too. He's done whole albums of just bass guitar and pedal effects and he's meant to be really good".

The guy responds "I'm probably better." straight off the bat. He then laughed a little to himself, in that half joke / half smug way, but that part of the conversation was officially over and it went back to what he was saying.

Does anyone have some good examples of SP's bass virtuosity that I can show to this guy if I get a chance. Alternatively, you can all just express discontent for this guy.

Personally I'm just annoyed that he cut me off.

A few tracks and the albums you can find them on:

C-Town Smash - Ultravisitor

Two Bass Hit (Dub) - Budkhan Mindphone

The Coathanger - Just a Souvenir

The entire 'Solo Electric Bass 1' Album

Tetra-Sync - Ultravisitor

'Every Day I Love' - Ultravisitor

'Andrei' - Ultravisitor

Basically you should just give him the 'Ultravisitor' album on account of it being the baddest album ever, not that it's particularly heavy in the bass department.

Oh, and after you show him the bass playing, slip in the fact that Tom played or programmed every single instrument on his records: bass, drums, keys, synths, and computers. On top of that he recorded, mixed and mastered them himself. That should get your friend feeling right poor about himself.

Why is the ability to play something fast so emphasized? It's not a damn sport! It all comes down to creativity and feel and banging on drums or bass ultra fast rarely have anything to do with that. Sure, you might be technically proficient but lack any artistic finesse and feel.

This! IMHO.

What makes him really special is also the use of the reactor patches in combination with his well balanced virtous bass/classic guitar play, and his advanced composing skills. The 2nd half of the vid.

I like the first bunch of the paris vids better, because of the castle in the sand and seb 1.05 segment in the 2nd half.

But after all to quote Tom himself:

Guy sounds like a real jackoff. Probably couldn't appreciate Tom's skill level. Show him Hadrien Feraud and tell him to fuck off, or jam this guy up his ass:

Sorry, this is not helpful at all.

I enjoy the fragility of the rolling lol tbh. The broken lol is like our own mortality staring us in the face, reminding us to enjoy that sunset.

tremendous waste of talent

That sounded horrible. Death (or whatever that shit is called) metal wankery at it's finest.
