Selection Sixteen / Go Plastic / Red Hot Car

Recommended Posts

2 seminal works...... Squarepusher at his very analog/digital best.. fast, acidic, percussive and the best fucking music of the 0's!!!

** Go Plastic live tour was truly awesome.. think the Alive in Japan, and Sydney Frigids live sets. First time I saw him too,... in Dublin... where he wrecked heads with the sheer beautiful noise of it all.

****Selection 16 was played a lot by Aphex Twin at DJ sets

*****Squarepushers Warp20 last eyar set was slso very much "selection 16" era acidness and he even played versions some tracks there.

Song by song breakdown imminent.......

I havent been following this the last 4 weeks. But selection 16 is one of if not my favourite SQ album.

despite what i am about to say, i assure you guys that i'm not trying to incite a flame war.

personally, i feel that selection sixteen is my least favorite of all the longer-length LPs that SP has done. i'm not a huge fan of the acidy tracks (excluding Tomorrow World and Mind Rubbers) and find myself wanting more from the short jazz improv bits. too disjointed feeling for my taste.

but then again, my least favorite from SP still is better than my favorites from many other artists so....

EDIT: forgot about Square Rave... that song is frickin massive as all hell

S16 and Go Plastic are just insane, one of his best eras ever

THATS HOW U NO U GOD WHEN YOU GOTA MODEL AND SHE THROW UP ON YO DICK BECAUSE ITS SO BIG AND YOUR IN A LIMO GOING TO A LIL B CONCERT - Lil B

go spastic has to be one of my very favorite SP tracks. everything about that song screams masterpiece. i could listen to it on infinite repeat...

took me a while to "get" greenways trajectory but that one is just as brutal. i love the part where the dj gunshot vocals get chopped and skidded to hell. always reminds me of some sort of lunatic with a serious case of glossolalia

You cant incite a flame war if you have a valid point. I just fucking love SP+303, most of my favourites are his real ACIIIIIIIID tracks.

But I like his jazz noodling tracks too.

"My fucking sound" says it all really...... hard as fucking nails this track....... classic squarepusher vocals too... When the banging bell sound comes in at the end..... Sweet jesus!!!!

As far as Selection Sixteen goes..

Many of the tracks unfortunately fall into 'meh' territory for me

Except for

Tomorrow World

The 'Eye

That Ceephax Mix in the end of Selection Sixteen

i don't participate in these threads or rarely but Go Plastic is fucking balls out crazy/ used to pump it a lot. highschool parties high on the weed, in the car , my fucking sound it gave my friend driving an anxiety attack he had to pull over. but yeah, totally sounds like tom said: robot music built by robots. 11/10

i find "dedicated loop" to be sort of annoying. hate the TB-303 loop that cycles throughout the whole song. without it, there would be no song, i understand, but it's one of those times where less 303 is better.

it's a crime not to mention shizm#2 !!

When he dropped Dedicated Loop at Warp20... i fucking lost it.... top notch stuff!!!

He's the master of melody and percussion and subtle breaks and momentum and melancholy and everything that i love about music

1 My Red Hot Car - Squarepusher's Windowlicker, it sounded phressher back then, today I usually skip it.

2 Boneville Occident - I've never heard nothing like it or since, the effects are all top quality sounding and meticulously programmed, I love the gun shots effect, you hear the bullets being fired and then they make a U turn like a cartoon bullet, lol absolutely genius. The drum programming is out of this world, specially after the buzzing noise at around 3:50 check out that flowww!!!

3 Go! Spastic - Love that breakdown at 1:80! Like Boneville this is another track that probably took ages to make and maybe the reason Tom has never done nothing to this level since.

4 Metteng Excuske v1.2 - ok filler

5 The Exploding Psychology - Really like how the track transitions at the middle with that hip-hop high-pitch sound and church organs, fantastic track.

6 I Wish You Could Talk - Very emotional track, sounds very cold, a bit harsh, wish it had the production sound from FMWT and HND.

7 Greenways Trajectory - I have to give this track another change.

8 Tommib - What more can be said? One of SQ's best known tracks.

9 My Fucking Sound - Can't really get into it, too IDM for me.

10 Plaistow Flex Out - Perfect ending, it's like a end credits track.

Schizm Track #2. Fuck yes. I also really dig Freeway, that's some funky ass bass. Too bad it, like all the jazz tracks on here, ends so abruptly.

Has anyone else heard Dead 'n' Gone, y'all? What the fuck is that?
