Rubicon

Rubicon is this awesome new show I've been watching on AMC all about this huge conspiracy in New York. I know a lot of people at watmm are all into the new world order/conspiracy thing so they would get a kick out of this show. It starts off slow but has a lot of good music/ambiance and the past episode things are getting intense.

This kind of drama really does nothing for me, when reality is seething with dishonest hoard protectors. So for my escapism i usually go for bubble gum pop. no 'fence ...

INDEED... I was going to be post a thread about Rubicon at the beginning of the season but this show is a slow burn. I love it but it's probably the slowest show I have ever loved and I doubt a lot of people have the patience for it. I guarantee Rubicon is going to benefit strongly as a show because of how its patiently building the tension. Definitely doesn't have enough trapping and gimmicks so far to get a lot of people hooked even though it really gets intense everyone once and a while. I wonder how long this show is going to stay on the air. I mean I am one of the most patience people I know I have a long attention span but this show tests that quite a bit sometimes. I am amazed if Rubicon gets that popular. We will see though. I bet this show is going to get so wild with conspiracy centered stuff, I don't know if that's going to get good attention or bad attention.

a bit slow but I like the fact that it doesn't pander to the average A.D.D. viewer and it is about a Think Tank and how they are involved in the intelligence community, a pretty original subject for a series, it has espionage, I am watching every week...

and Maggie is amazing looking...

I've been watching it since it premiered. I figured I was the only one on the boards keeping up with it so I just never bothered with a thread. Definitely a nice slow burning story.

Also, with Clay Davis in it, do you think we'll get a sheeeeeeeit? I know Madmen has used shit a few times so there is a possibility.

hehe It IS kind of funny I thought there would only be like 1.44 people on watmm that liked this show maximum. I was so going to start a thread about this but after like the 2nd episode I was like barely anyone is going to like this slow show but me.

dood dawg bro when Kale pulled that ninja turbo throat pinch on maggies sperm donor omgzors so gangster. Kale will probably end up being the 2nd most bad ass gay character on TV next to Omar from The Wire.

He is kind of a wild card at this point. His motives are unclear. He appears to be protecting Will's detective work, but it is unclear if he's doing it to keep his place or if he himself is doing something similar.

I watched the pilot as it sounded interesting and I was definitely intrigued by it and kept on watching and I've come to really like it. The slow burn doesn't bother me one bit and actually suits this kind of show which seems to be inspired from those 70s spy movies. The characters are engaging and there are really no big names either so they are essentially the ones they portray. At first I thought Kale (interesting fact: he was pvt. Cowboy in Full Metal Jacket, and I guess the drill sergeant was right when he said only stags and queers came from Texas and he didn't look like a stag) was this aloof douche, but he has quickly become a favourite, an old stylish gay dude with a background as a spook. Kale's motives are shady, he is a patriot first and foremost and whatever shenanigans his higher ups are up to they are surely only in the best interest of a select few rich guys. Nerdy Miles from Will's team also gets a thumbs up.

BTW, anyone checked if the QR code in the intro says anything?

I am pretty confident that Kale is going to be a mostly good bad guy in the end of things. Kale is tired of being paranoid of the unpredictable nature of the lazy elite old bastards making rash decisions to silence their probably future inconveniences. He will continue to help Will but won't hesitate fuck him over and cover his ass if he has to as well. (he is a pitcher not a catcher heh)

hahaha that actor does such a good job of portraying that character as an uber mega awkward goof.

Is this slow burn like Mad Men slow burn? Because NOTHING happens in Mad Men (and I love it)

I would say it's probably slower in some ways than Mad Men but season 1 of Mad Men kind of bored me, Rubicon doesn't bore me at all (although I would not suggest watching it when you're really fucking sleep deprived)

watching the newest episode now finally.

HOLY SHIT, even though I expected some crazy shit to happen around now, WOW still surprised me, this show is turning out every bit as intense and interesting as I hoped for. Definitely the show I respect the most on TV right now. Even if some other shows have higher budgets, crazier cinematography, pretty girls with nice tits and lots of cheap entertainment.. the directions this show is bravely going in and at the quality no compromise pace its doing so in.. it's very commendable.

yeah after the last ep this is one of my favorite things on tv. it took forever to get going, first episode I saw when it premiered after breaking bad, and I kinda hated it. but I watched the following eps, and it never seemed anything more than interesting. but then it started getting good. and then just kept getting better. so those who haven't given it a try yet, you have to stick with it if it seems at all like it could even remotely be your sort of thing.

Yeah, latest episode ratcheted up the action a bit. Shit is getting tense.

I've been watching since the fourth episode and like the show a good deal; I'd probably like it much more if I could find a few hours to catch up with the initial episodes.

I don't mind the slow pacing as such, but the pacing is a little off. . . for instance, the speed with which Will pulled some disparate pieces together re: the Conspiracy's goals/API's role in the last episode seemed a bit tossed off and underdeveloped compared to the long periods of fumbling in the previous episodes. But I probably missed a few cues/clues that were in the first three, as yet unwatched, episodes?

That said, the blind fumbling --> flash of insight --> blind fumbling thing is a pretty refreshingly realistic thing to see on mainstream TV.

Kale's awesomeness index skyrocketed in the last episode, and yet somehow he doesn't strain credulity at all. Wonderful!

I'm wondering about that. Has this been renewed for a second season/series? Seems like it could work best as a self-contained, one-season affair, in which case Will is

two more eps, thought it was a 12 ep season but no, tis 13....and don't know yet if it has been renewed.
