frisco wave sounds like sonic the hedgehog music

no, like the intro to ALF.

or like when a 'virtuoso' from a conservatory finally records his/her solo album and it's all nice but sounds exactly like a backing track from a guitar or bass magazine CD.

i hate to say things like this because i respect the man and i don't like the thought of him reading shit like this but (to my uneducated ears) it's as generic as is gets as a composition.

ZOMG! Lazerz pew pew pew!!!!11!!1!!!!1!oneone!shift+one!~!!!

i love the end of cryptic motion where there is a slight hint of classic squarepusher (ambience, then acid bassline and then awesome slap bass).

actually the more i listen to this album, the more i like it. this is pretty much what i wanted to hear after JAS, i remember hearing the vocoder tracks and thinking he should release a whole album of pop songs. these are obviously a bit more 'light' than those tracks but it's satisfying for me! 3 listens in and my favourites are laser rock and megazine.

also let me just say that i haven't been a huge squarepusher fan until his post-hello everything material, so i am by no means some kind of mindless fanboy who will love everything he releases.

i want an EP of maximum planck versions.

my first impression was that the overall sound is pretty flat. but the songs themselves are growers i think.

i call big fat bs on the "band" thing tho - the video implies that there's a real drummer triggering the 909 off electric drums, but the tempo never drifts, so the drums are in fact sequenced. also, the video shows the red tellytubby singing, but any time it's clear enough to tell, it's definitely tom j.

He is not making a secret of his own involvment as a bassist and singer, in fact that is in clear print on the Cryptic Motion EP.

yeah it's pretty likely that the whole album is just tom, but i really hope there is a live show involving a full band - and that they come to australia, of course! and considering how many warp artists have been touring here lately i wouldn't rule out that possibility.

I would love a whole album of Squarepusher's mind-bending vocal-infused future pop tracks in the vein of 'My Red Hot Car', 'Do You Know Squarepusher' and 'Talk About You and Me' (and some others I've forgotten.) Now THAT would be awesome.

I'm not sure why making catchy, melodic vocoder-driven pop music means all the inventive production and programming and sound design has to go out of the window. Lots of my friends think that the rest of 'Go Plastic' isn't even music, but they'll happily listen to 'My Red Hot Car' over and over again on their own. Same goes for the lead track on 'Do You Know Squarepusher'. That sort of stuff is very accessible and seems to impress folk not even into this genre, but it's also very interesting sonically.

i dunno, i still find this album interesting sonically, mostly for the quality of the synth sounds/programming, i mean, have a listen to the synth solo in laser rock (for example) and try to tell me that isn't some super precision shit.

i guess i'm just a sucker for computer game / demoscene music, and this album is satisfying as fuck in that regard!
