I agree that fool is an excellent insult. use it myself to great effect.

i always use 'idiot'. it's wonderful, especially in german, where you can say it in a really harsh, mean way

Dupe's a good one if you're playing around with friends. However, my all time favorite has got to be chode.

chode is one that really gets on my nerves, such a frat-boy insult.
