I saw a show on tv about people who carry a gene that makes them immune to hiv. the gene is found in people of european descent. it originally evolved during the plague and offered protection from that disease. well, I guess the gene probably arose earlier, but people who carried two copies of it (one from mom and one from dad) survived unscathed.

High risk pool is anyone that wants to do the behaviors that make the viral transmission favorable.
