^Probably would. That & I don't want to clutter up EKT with a bunch of threads about this. It'd be nice to have a place to host reviews (and possibly discussion/short comments on music, but those probably could be contained in a single thread if need be).

This sounds like it could be pretty cool

A blog page, perhaps?

That sounds like it would work. Main reviews would go up as individual posts, short little bits or comments on reviews can go in the comments section or in one EKT thread.

Maybe something similar to what is set up for p168? But no time limit on how you compose, could be old stuff, new stuff, whatever. Just give a submission window. A site like that might be a little ambitious for me to do but maybe there is some kind of template we can work off of? maybe there is a good way to organize this in soundcloud(although we probably want better quality available as well for the albums).

I think this sounds like a great idea also. The collection of songs format is good and it's something I could get into by loading them onto my walkman for when I wandering about. I also have an EP of material that I've been half looking to release in some form so if I was to get involved in this it would be the kick up the backside to get on with that.

Plus, I can do constructive criticism well and if people think my music is honking i'm excellent at not taking the huff. The only issue could be my low post count because I'm mostly a lurker...

What exactly is p168?

^That could also be a good option. At the very least it would bring some life to what appears to be a fairly inactive blog scene.

I'm going to try to do some research this weekend, possibly get something set up for hosting music/write-ups.

  • 4 weeks later...

I'm still up for it. We just need something to host reviews (and possibly music for some people). What about setting up one of those free forums for this - would that work?

^Torrent would probably work, just so long as the creators keep seeding it.

As far as posting reviews, though, what do you guys think - would this thread be good enough or should I keep looking for something like a forum to host them?

Guest futuregirlfriend

You could create a mediafire account for uploading archives. Just require whoever to PM you for the password the first time. On another forum we shared an account which had 100GB+ uploaded, lots of bandwidth usage and no problems. There are per file stats, you can organise folders etc. You can always get people to use soundcloud for a taster track or two, but I think that's going against the idea of this?

Are there any free blog providers with decent comment systems? Maybe there's a switch to flip to enable multiuser blogs here, ask JR or chaosmachine. People could submit or suggest things, you and some curators control the blog and schedule the listening.

And yeah good idea. I'm always putting off clicking on the releases listed in people's signatures.

^What about Wordpress? I could set something up, & then when the reviewing starts people could send me their stuff & I'd post it.

I think this will work...

Okay, so anyone who wants to take part, send me a PM with a link to the album/EP/playlist/whatever you want reviewed. If it's not already available online somewhere, create a torrent & send me that. If you don't know how to make a torrent, go here. If you don't want to make a torrent then...I dunno.

I'll give this a few days, at least, see what sort of response it gets. Once enough people have officially signed up we can set up a schedule. GOGOGO

So far I've got links to specific things for review from:

Wahrk

Sneaksta303

Ranky Redloaf

Cryptowen (of course)

I know other people have said they wanted in, but I don't think I've received links from them yet. CHOP CHOP Y'ALL
