So is this worth getting or?

Absolutely and I'd recommend it but again it's subjective. They are an excellent unique sounding band.

That interview was excellent, you don't often hear such refreshing honesty these days. It's an album that

can be enjoyed on its own without having heard their earlier material but if you are familiar with "Quique" and "Succour",

it makes the experience more rewarding because the development and change is much more apparent. Actually, fuck it, just buy it, it's superb! Best come back album I've heard since Polvo's incredible "In Prism" last year.

just the fact that their rating system is so insanely exact is laughable. what criteria do you use to distinguish between a 7.3 album and a 7.4 album? :trashbear:

Been thinking about this a lot myself, but I do think it's a good way to measure music. You don't necessarily need to dissect any certain criteria to rate one album 0.1 points above other, just feel that "if I had to put these records in order, I'd put them like this". That's nothing final and opinions change, but when you have tons of records that you review that extra scale comes in very handy I reckon. A scale of 1 to 10 is still passable, but 1 to 5 is just too weak in my opinion.

That said, gotta express my dislike for Pitchfork while we're at it.

Look my point is that at least admit your being a preachy teachy asshole and give it a letter grade! ...the decimal rating system is the music journalism equivalent of a calculating the quality of a math-rock based on the odd time signature/tempo changes/key modulations etc...oh except they don't even have that kind of criteria

Here's another interesting interview with Sarah Peacock from the band... http://thefourohfive.com/articles/5464

According to Mark Clifford the band are in a very creative space right now with recording and have moved WAY beyond the material on this record! I'm excited to hear it!

That's a pretty twisted view in my opinion, but I'm not going to argue. The way I'd probably use it is first giving the record a grade between 1 and 10 and then, if necessary, adjust a decimal number by comparing it to other records around that grade. That wouldn't involve any sort of scientific calculation as you mentioned. Edited by 40days

well once there's a price tag you don't see much in the way of "constructive" criticism...

There's some absolutely stunning stuff on this album - plus, it doesn't sound like anything else I can think of, pretty rare these days.

Every time I play this album I get impatient waiting for Making and Airless, which are I-can't-believe-my-ears-best-music-of-2011 level awesome, I always wanted someone to do metal guitars with electronics, Mezzanine era Massive Attack meets Slowdive played by Neurosis plus Warp and this is the closest I have found to what I imagine it would be like.

no youtube videos in the signature, lolz

much love,

squee

It's an interesting little experiment, but not really essential; though it is unlike anything on the album proper.

Just noticed that they played some new material that hasn't had release yet at a recent gig...

*BUMP* so perhaps more people can discover the under-appreciated brilliance of this album as 2011 comes to a close.

Expect more from Seefeel in the new year as well!

Wow, not to necro-crit but what is with the CH-Vox hate? I totally don't get it... it's like an audio translation of Silent Hill, or being dropped in the woods in the middle of the night. Awesome vibes. I guess when music is sparse some people feel like they're getting ripped off? Do you guys hate Selected Ambient Works vol. 2 as well?

Anyway...

Funny you bumped this. I gave this another listen last night - I've been going through some records I haven't heard in a while because I just bought a Vestax Handy Trax which doesn't sound that great but is really fun to listen to stuff on for some reason.

The first time I heard this record, I was really underwhelmed. I interpreted the guitar stuff as being their version of wobble bass and a lot of the feedback-type textures felt kind of wanky to me. My overall impression was that if I was still a stoner, I would really be into it, and that was about it. But when I listened last night, it really clicked for me. Great vibe, it definitely doesn't jump out at you. This is definitely going to be getting some long-overdue rotation in the new year.

Ch-Vox isn't a bad little release - I was listening to it last night funnily enough. Problem is though...it's not an album, it's a 6-track EP (with one track already pretty-much released). I remember feeling a bit short-changed getting charged full price by rephlex for it back in the day. Not something you could complain about with SAW2.

As for the latest album, could be my album of the year I reckon - certainly it's got some of my favourite tracks of the year on it. Dead Guitars, Faults, Making, Airless, Rip-Run, all stunning.
