We're delighted to announce that the new album called, ‘Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will’ will be released on 14th February 2011 on Rock Action Records.

‘Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will’, band’s seventh album, was recorded over the summer at Chem 19 Studios, in Hamilton and mixed at The Castle Of Doom. ‘Hardcore’ is produced by Mogwai confidante Paul Savage (the man behind Mogwai’s exceptional 1997 ‘Mogwai Young Team’ album) and is the follow up to 2008’s magnum opus ‘The Hawk Is Howling’.

The album will be released on February 15 2011 in the US where Mogwai have recently signed to the illustrious Sub Pop label for North America.

I love Mogwai but calling The Hawk is Howling a "magnus opus" is a far stretch

Closest to that term is probably Happy Songs for Happy People, or Rock Action

Yeah, I got bored with it pretty quickly and never pulled it out after the few initial listens.

I wouldn't even consider it a "magnus opus" let alone a magnum opus

I dunno, I thought Hawk was pretty ropey when I first heard it due to it being so similar structurally to Mr Beast and never listened much. But I reappraised in light of listening to Special Moves and there's some decent stuff on there. I'm mostly pleased because they'll be playing a gig 2mins walk from my work. Yeah, I work in Paisley..

Basically AutoRock and Jim Morrison are your slow building but melodic intro songs, then Glasgow Mega Snake and Batcat are your Mogwai discovering that it's cool just to write really catch short rock out songs. That's where my theory starts to fall apart but it set the tone and with the albums being in similar stylistic ball parks. I just felt "meh"... Batcat though I appreciate more now just doesn't live up to GMS.

i hope they come to australia again soon, i missed out last time because i had the flu and an ear infection. not the kind of thing you want when going to a mogwai gig! i had a ticket too, aww.

i sometimes wonder how folk that aren't from scotland react to Mogwai tacks. e.g. Ratts Of The Capital. I agree it's an awesome track but to me the name possibly puts a new spin on it. It seems like a cheeky dig at folk from Edinburgh. Another example is the track from Young Team that has a recording from the Glasgow underground system - for me it adds to the melancholic feel but I'm guessing to other folk it's just a field recording....

i thought hawk howling was pretty damn good.

but saying that a band sometimes needs to be quiet for awhile especially one that makes the same album over and over again.

i felt this way about hawk until i heard the preview track

Probably referring to punk. The thing that makes me think that is that San Pedro is a town in California where Minutemen were from.

Sounds pretty smart, seems like there was much more synth than you might normally expect from them. But I'll only listen the once as I hate when I get a new album and i've overlistened to a track in the lead-up to release. Makes the album feel lop-sided on the familiarity front.

In other news, I have to say a big shout-out to Renfrewshire Council. I lost my tickets for the gig at Paisley Town Hall (not a drunken escapade, absent minded mislaying - they'll probably turn up in the freezer) and when i went back over to the ticket office to buy replacements I was told not to be so daft and they promptly did me some reprints. For nothing!! You'd no get that from Ticketmaster...
