VPN Proxy Accounts

Recommended Posts

Will I be able to trick a service like Spotify I'm from the UK then? Because Spotify is not available in Belgium. It's not available in America either. So a UK proxy would be teh shizzle for more people on this board?

Can such an account be shared with a friend? How much will the cheap one cost in EUR?

Secondly can you choose between full VPN or just use the web proxy? Or do you get both options in the package?

As detailed here: http://helpdesk.scothosts.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=99&nav=0,12,13 there is quite a difference in the two. There are moments I suppose where you don't want all your traffic to be router to the proxy (VPN) but you just want to use a simple proxy setting in one application (like spotify for instance).

i may set up two servers, one in london, one in new york.

accounts are limited to one user at a time. if you share it, you'll have to take turns.

i'm only looking at full vpn service at the moment.

the cost in euros will be whatever the conversion rate is plus whatever your local tax usually is on internet purchases from american businesses. that probably works out to about 1 usd = 1 euro.

we already signed (with cash) up for one month to overplay, because of the thread re: that from earlier this week. I haven't had a chance to check it's average speeds for video's besides the day we signed up when it was fine for bbC and cbs video feeds, and saturday morning when it was choking. I won't be able to properly assess overplays performance yet, because we're near the end of the month and i don't want to chew through the few gig left on our net plan. So i'll try overplay a bit more seriously later next week.

As to servers, i'm not really super intrested in US content. Cause their shows (history channel/simpsons ect. i can mostly d/l. Same with the big budget bbC stuff, as it's nice to have it on file for the years down the track when you might wanna watch it again. But, the bbC also has tons of regular bubblegum programming (like top gear, or news progs ect.) which i don't care so much about torrenting, but that i would still like to just have on in the background because it'll be more intresting that what's on locally.

Anyway, what i'm saying is that i'll see how overplay pans out before shelling out for something different. They seem to have servers all over the eurozone and in asia (korea) as well as in north america. So i'll play with that for a month before i think about researching what else is on offer in the market.

Guest tht tne

comcast's bandwidth cap/torrent throttling are why i would consider this, but how can you ensure unlimited bandwidth? i don't want to go hogwild and get my internet terminated

edit: i'm aware that the above shows that i know jackshit about vpns but honestly if i'm going to offer you business i would like you to explain to me personally how this works

even a relevant link or set of links would probably go a long way to convincing me to go for the monthly option and renew if it does what it says on the tin, i'm def. considering

the unlimited bandwidth is only on the server side of the connection. you still have to actually download the same number of bits, they're just encrypted. if your isp has a 100 gig limit, then you still have to respect that.

the encryption takes care of the throttling problem, though, because your isp can't see what protocols are being used.

A VPN account is a way to encrypt your internet access.

Basically, it helps you get around work/school filters, torrent throttling, region restrictions on websites (like video sites that only work in the UK or US), and stops your ISP from recording every website you visit (which they later might turn over to the mpaa/riaa/etc).

It also protects you from people stealing your information or hijacking your accounts over wifi (it's now possible to do this with one click).

BTW, I'm hoping to send out demo accounts to people by the end of this week.
