Deleting songs from albums that you don't like

Really? I have no problem listening to entire albums using my digital library at home or on the go. It's what I prefer. I tend to shuffle at home more than I used to, but it's still a small percentage of my overall listening time. And it helps remind me of certain albums I haven't heard in a while.

Albums por vida!

Deleting tracks is essential to properly enjoy Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me by The Cure...

Half of that album is some of the greatest shit they've ever done (If Only Tonight..., The Kiss, etc)

The other half is some of the worst (Why Can't I Be You, Just Like Heaven, etc)

I do this a lot

Few examples: Analoggins from Analord 06 , Clayhill Dub from CW , that supernova song from The Orb's Adventures , Obsessed from Electro-soma , i deleted Numbers and Pocket calculator from Computer world and added The Telephone Call (because Electric cafe is awful and i can't have a one song album.) I have also deleted and merged a few of Early Squarepusher albums.

You can't be serious, Obsessed is the best track on Electro-Soma.. WTF!?!?!

I hated Analoggins when I did listen to analords the first time but when you are in a very grumpy mood the track is gold. took me some years to find it out so

I think it's all to do with how long you've known an album and how much time you've dedicated to it. Say it's an album you've had since the early 90s for example. You've played it a ton, you know what you like and don't like. I think it's fine to not like certain songs at this point. I still leave them in and play them, but that's beside the point.

Now say you got an album last year or earlier this year. I know some of you play a new album over and over for days on end when you first get it, so I guess you could get to "know" an album much faster than I would - as I tend to play it a couple times a week at most, unless it's really mind-blowing which is rare. I take my time with things, I think mostly because I'm constantly exploring new stuff. Anyway, point being, I think it's unfair to dismiss songs in this scenario, because they could grow on you. Even if you've played the album 50 times in the first month it was out. It's not just about how often you've heard it, but how long you've known it. The musical landscape as a whole can have an impact on your enjoyment of particular songs. 20 years down the line there could be a new musical trend that all of a sudden reminds you of a particular track, then you're like "hey I used to not like that track, let me check it out again..." and you might like it or appreciate it. Now I admit that's not a likely scenario, but hopefully it reinforces my point.

jesus this thread/boxing day needs to fucking die.

if you like an artist, it's your own fucking fault that you don't understand their artistic vision of a certain release. Once you can move beyond, "well I just don't like this track," then you'll realize it's retarded to delete the songs. It's an insult to the artist. How dare you call yourself an Orb or Kraftwerk fan.

Yeah, and that makes me a little sad. What would these kids today have done in my day, when all we had was vinyl (a ballache to skip any dross) or tape (where winding through the lesser liked tracks was a good way to fuck the cassette up). I always found that if I really didn't like certain tracks on albums that I otherwise loved it felt really rewarding to make it back through to the good shit, like a mini endurance test.

And as someone posted earlier, full album or nothing.

I don't understand you people , I am suppose to just sit there and torture myself with tracks I don't like?

I,m not masotistic .

Personally I don't like the idea of merging albums or whatever or deleting tracks(just my OCD), but I do agree you're entitled to listen to your own music that you've bought how you want. I wonder how many people objecting actually paid for all of the music that they're treating as so sacrosanct?

Despite them being dicks about it. Theyre actually concerned about you not getting the full enjoyment of the albums. Except for Lopez, his point is stupid.

Do whatever the hell you want. You should make 192kbps copies and listen to them.
