ahh, memories. I remember I used to use this on my old computer that didn't have a soundcard. I'd take files round to my mates to hear what they sounded like. Make changes based on scribbled notes, then go back the next week. It wasn't very productive... when i eventually saved enough cash to buy a soundcard i changed to fasttracker.

...basically old digital gear in general. Analog has the whole niche market thing going strong, but all of those 80s digital synths seem to be falling to the wayside.

digital is the new analog

i wanna hear what a stylophone sounds like.

i've got two. in fact, i don't need them anymore. i might sell them (or give them away)

i'll take one lol

also if you want to hear one, listen to pocket calculator by kraftwerk.

analogue recording/mixing/mastering is pretty obsolete (in the sense that digital has waaaay taken over) but you've still got dickheads like steve albini using it to great effect.

Data - This type to be more specific

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

i just didn't understand the need for pointing out that MiniDisc uses data compression.

That's like saying Cassette Tape: with it's lovely spindles

I understand... But many people enjoy/enjoyed the style of compression the Mini Disc had... It would automatically adjust volume levels while you were recording live... Giving recordings a nice warm semi-mastered sound to them... But they could overly compress if you didn't have the compression dialed in...

Ahhh Mini-Disc  you got me soo many good samples MD. If it wasn't for my ZoomH2, I'd still be using you!

No... The adjustment of gain is just one part of compression...

yeah you can set the quality of recording on those minidisc players. lofi to better... all of it uses compression

this drove me nuts until i realized you could just shut it off. i wouldn't call the result "warm" so much as "infuriatingly volatile." i never use it.

that being said, i love my minidisc. it's always there if the computer is on the fritz... currently i have mine set up by the piano with a presonus bluetube for some serious billy joel wailing.

yeah i know that, but enxyme wasn't talking about the ATRAC bitrate. my minidisc recorder can do uncompressed PCM though.

yeah, the AGC is highly annoying and pretty much useless, in my opinion.
