too bad you guys are too young enough to know the 80s fucking sucked. all these leechers to the gay 80s sound are on the wrong tip. it's gonna go out just as fast as it came back in. there is no artistic merit associated with the eighties. none. it's a joke. always was always will be.

ice man, you can ride my tail anytime.

edit: this is probably not a good drunk post...

Edited by jules

amazingly my appreciation for oscillik is higher than what he thinks of himself. well played chap.

but my opinion still stands.

you just took a giant dump all over pretty much everything i've composed for the past 3 years.

oh well.

well that was a drunken broad stroke. I grew up in the eighties so it's not all bad in my head. i mean fucking thriller, mr belvedere, John Rambo, transformers and the beasties came out of there. it's not all bad. I'm being a grumpy crank but I do not appreciate the super gay synthesizer cheese ball shit that is associated with it. so sorry if that's your thing, it's just not mine.

lol yeah that's what kills me about it - the gay cheese synthesizers. There were many good things about the 80s (Husker Du anyone?) but miami vice theme songs were not one of them.

백호야~~~항상에 사랑할거예요.나의 아들.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

To address the balance i'll say Miami Vice theme songs > Husker Du

well i actually think i'm pretty worthless if truth be told. but thanks i think?

i get that there was some shit in the 80s. but there was some good too. same as any other decade. just for some of us that happened to grow up in the 80s, we can look back with a certain rose tinted nostalgia. it's cool if you don't like it though. we're not gonna get you with forks man.

I've wanted to say something like this to my sister, who loves 80 music yet was born in 1988. I guess people do this with a lot of decades though. Happy Days...

so no-one is allowed to listen to an era of music that they weren't old enough to understand at the time?

i know i can come across as an elitist arsehole, but...come on. you gotta admit that is an elitist statement if ever i heard one.

yeah, damn it ossy has been scoring points in this thread. i love death but they are a band that only existed, essentially, during the 70's. zepplin, the doors, the beatles, what the fuck are you getting at? just that you don't like a certain era of music?

I think its more about people re-doing the eighties, specifically the bad part of the eighties.

It really does because I didn't add any context and I didn't mean it that way  Let me explain...my sister is one of those people who says "music today sucks" and completely focuses on the idealized concept of what the 80s were, without factoring any of the shit that went on back then. She's just superficial, I could care less about what she really likes in and of itself...a lot of music I love is from before I was born. I know people into the rockabilly scene and I think that's awesome. But I dunno, I don't dig people who idolize something because it's currently trendy (which I think jules was hitting on) or who listen to one specific thing and judge everything else without a sincere effort to understand or like it. (well this is a bad habit of watmm, arguably)

...and to further agree with what you pointed out, on the opposite end there are just as many people who idolize the music they knew and loved growing up...just look at baby boomers and the music they listen to: classic rock, motown - they keep tuning into oldies stations and buying re-issues of the stuff.

That's all well and good, but were you even alive in the '80s?

By default, I don't listen to Com Truise because of his name alone. I have no idea what he sounds like. He maybe something worth while for all I know. But I'll never know because of his name... I'm weird like that!

DIFFERENT STROKES CHEN!

We are allowed to like different music.

Also yes, not that it matters at all when it comes to enjoyment of anything.

I will be fair and say this remix is decent.

Dan C - the point is not that you aren't allowed to enjoy different types of music. It's that a lot of the retro worship of the '80s is worship of utter shit.

And it does matter - because someone who grew up in the 80s has a much different appreciation/context of 80s media than someone who was born at the end of the decade. Much like people who actually experienced raves back in the day will (should) universally deride club culture. That Jan Hammer sound has not aged well!

(I will admit to liking Skee-lo over t'pau though...)

Worship of any particular thing can be bloody awful, but I just enjoy certain music more than Husker Du that was all I was saying.

I don't go in for that kind of thing, how about people that like music that is hundreds of years old etc etc. It's only music at the end of the day.

Well of course you're going to despise a genre of music if you were spammed with it during your upbringing.

Im sure there'll be some shitty nostalgia thing going on with Rebecca Black in a few years.

Boards of Rebecca or some shit.

This. With a couple exceptions like Dam Funk, I think because black people can make literally anything cool :nyan:
