True story: Vancouver is the only place in the world I've been called "pot head" in a derogatory fashion.

Must be shit to be a local in Amsterdam, with the constant stream of piss and boke in your doorway from pissed stags. Ive never met a Dutch person with anything other than contempt for them.

i lived just outside the city centre (near harlemmerstraat) for about six months - lucky to get the flat. even in pre-euro days it was expensive, but besides that it was amazing (bar the one time a junky tried to rape my gf). i lived in a caravan in a forest about 10km outside the city when single for about six months, and i don't have a single bad thing to say about that time.

I was held at knifepoint in Amsterdam for money, but the poor bastard wasnt expecting a world weary Northern Irish twat. I calmly told him that he wouldnt be getting any of my money and his poor face just sank with dejection. I almost gave him cash then cause I felt sorry for him =)

Its a beautiful country, the coast drive is a a treat.

lol, you would be surprised how close that is to a few of my mates' attempted muggings.

they just don't seem prepared for a particular brand of non-continental cynicism - they find kinda alien and it perplexes them.

one particularly silver-tongued mate of mine had a similar experience, and by the end of it they ended up leaving him alone and giving him some fake Es.

if you've been mugged in the dodgier areas of limerick, dublin, or belfast, it seems sorta unconvincing.

although if you went to osdorp or the dodgier areas of amsterdam zuid-oost, your milage might vary considerably.

I had dreads twice (for 1 and 2 years), and trust me the only way to convince people that you're not a douchebag is to cut them off... straightaway.

lol osdorp. i used to look after some cats there. didnt feel unsafe there. theres a garden centre and people sing together in the pubs. seems like a lot of jordaan types moved out there. i think people wear tracksuits there partly cause they go to a gym.

btw, i no longer take drugs unless girls give them to me. so this doesn't really bother me at all. having lived in a house full of heavy drug users, i'm very happy to have turned my back on that whole stupid scene. give me strong booze and cigarettes. that's all i need.
