I always really liked his pop ambient stuff and konigsforst.

Other artists that sound somewhat similar to Gas:

- Ulf Lohmann / Because Before. This one's got the muddy sound of Gas in most of the tracks.

Great album.

Another (not Wolfgang Voigt) album with a similar Gas sound. This was actually recorded in the same year as first Gas album, but the CD never was released until ten years later.

lol, I didn't even see your post. Sorry! It's a fantastic album though. Everything I've heard from Silentes has been good.

As much as I hate spamming, I thought about it and I think the Gas-heads in this thread would possibly enjoy this:

While not specifically sounding like Gas, I took a lot of influence from Gas when I made it. Think Gas meets Casino Versus Japan, strung out on nitrous in the tropics, and you're there. Also, worth noting that Henry Mancini's "Theme From A Summer Place" is sampled really prominently in that piece, but good luck trying to spot it!

Practically speaking, yes.

However much of the ripped stuff circulating is poor/half-decent quality, so those of us who are a bit more fickle about audio are probably willing to fork over the ridiculous cash.

Considering I dropped $40 on Autechre's Garbage EP alone, I would absolutely get that for $50.

Exactly my point - considering the usual market for Gas vinyl, that $50 is either an extinct listing, extremely dinged up, or (if you're lucky) from a seller who has no idea what they have. Esp. since Konigsforst is considered by many to be one of the best albums!

I like the CD version more, but the LP version is not a bad bonus to have on top of that. I must admit though that I do not own the vinyl itself, I just have a rip of it. Listening to everything through my wireless headphones, though, is the best listening environment for me - but I'm not denying the vinyl experience from the artwork to the player needle.

I listened to Zauberberg via slsk, instantly baleeted and sprung for Nah Und Fern from Forced Exposure because its ludicrous to not pay for that righteous collection. Here on Friday--plan to go deep into the forest

OK, I'm not looking to be a copyist or anything but I stumbled onto something fun. Aphex only wishes the Analord binder could compare to this 3LP "Isle Of The Dead" by Rachmaninoff I found at a thrift store for $0.25. The records must be pressed lead; literally the heaviest 33 RPM discs I've ever held in my life. It's built just like a book with a bound spine and cardboard sheathes for the records. It was released in the 60's and the records and binders are in absolutely horrible condition...maybe the worst shape I've ever seen records in that could still be played.

I used an old sacrificial stylus to encode them digitally just for the novelty of it. I revisited it tonight and now that I know Nah und Fern front to back, I was shocked by how much the beginning of the third movement sounded very Gas(sy) I selected out the intro and crafted a reverbed kick drum reminiscent of the Gas series to add. Except for the kick, the sample is completely untouched--everything you hear is the sum total of artifacts from a 45 year old trashed record. It's truncated for looping so Choose Your Own Gas
