you unoriginal twat!

:D watmm love

:trashbear: Totally didn't notice that lol.

I think I might dig up a track and see what you can do. If I ever actually put out an album your services may be more than useful.

isnt a true master done with separated audio tracks? i know very little of mastering, but isnt it better to have the separate tracks instead of them all in one file from a mastering perspective?

Theres not much point in mastering each stem by itself only to find it sounds crap when you put it together.

99% of mastering is done on the whole mix, a stereo "fold-down" from the muslittrack. Stem mastering is sometimes done for a variety of reasons, and much more commonly with surround/5.1 mixes etc.

I've only done stem mastering a couple of time, for Pawnsphinx. He'd send me three stems of all the drums, all the melodic lines, and all the sound effects/percussion, then I'd send the stems back and he'd mix them.

It really blurs the line between mixing and mastering, and I always to prefer to work with a finished stereo mix.

OK, I have mastered six tracks for free for WATMM folks so far! I hope you are enjoying my work.

I am still waiting on a couple more.

There are some of you I have still not heard back from since I mastered your tracks. I just want to make sure you have downloaded your mastered files, as I need my FTP space for other clients. Please let me know you received the files OK, so that I can take them down.

It's been an interesting week on here so far! Thanks for all the kind words.

All the best,

Gregg

hey gregg, nice service you are offering. I'm curious though, wouldn't a track mastered only till the 2/3rds mark take just as much time as mastering a full track?

I knew someone would ask that, haha! Yes, you're right of course. I guess it's more a scheme to keep time wasters away/maximise profit. On the other hand just mastering a piece of a track could actually be a bit quicker, as I don't have to master the whole track or worry about fades etc. If you just want to hear a snippet of before/after, to see whether or not it would be worth paying for, I'll do that, and then release the full mastered track upon payment. Just had too many time wasters over the last few years, and it all builds up! Hope that was an honest answer. I have a family to feed and it's my only source of income etc.

On the other hand I have mastered quite a few IDM tunes if you just want to check some of the thinhgs I've already done, I recently posted three free lossless Pawnsphinx EP links in this thread:

So what would a 1 hour 45 minute album cost to have mastered? I played with the idea of having my ambient stuff mastered for release, but it wasn't too cost effective. Doesn't help that I don't make anything off it haha.

I used to have a separate per track plus per minute rate, but these days I have a standard €60 per track rate. If it's an hour long drone track, or 99 short punk tracks, then we'd have to talk, but basically it's a €60 per track flat rate. So to answer your question, it would depend on how many tracks you have!

So this doesn't become just a big pluggy plug, and for fairness Christopher Leary (a.k.a Ochre) also does a fabulous mastering service for £20 per track - http://melograf.com/process/#Rates

(and he mastered my 20 minute piece au, and 10 minute fur alali at that rate too)

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.
