do you really think chicago pizza pwns new york style? i live in northern nj so there are tons of killer pizza joints around, plus manhattan is a hop, skip and a jump away. i have lots of family in chicago so i spend a lot of time there every year. do not get me wrong, i loooove chicago pizza but i feel like its in a different ballpark that nyc style and thats why i cant compare them.

i can not imagine having to eat pizza from a chain though. yuck. id rather make my own like jr said. its not that difficult.

Plus, you can do some crazy shit with homemade pizza that you otherwise wouldn't find with a normal pizza joint.

For instance: Basil, Roma Tomatoes, Paneer, Mozzarella, Cilantro Chutney - tasty India-style pizza.

I can't put in words how much I hate pizza hut. Papa John's is far better by comparison. It's not a greasy pile at least.

My favorite pizza joints are Hound Dog's in Columbus, OH and Sicilia's in Boston. You have to get it Smokin' Joe's style if you go to Hound Dog's. The crust is thick and covered with garlic and butter.

Sicilia's has sort of a deep dish style that's stuffed with cheese, but doesn't have a cornmeal crust.

There's a place here in SF called Goat Hill Pizza that's pretty decent. They do 'all-you-can-eat' on Mondays for $11. People walk around with trays of pizza and you just tell them which ones you want a slice of.

That's what makes Pizza Hut's pizza so disgusting - the amount of butter (or is it oil - tastes sorta like butter) they put in the pan that keeps the pizza from sticking. Their toppings (granted, I haven't had PH in about 5 or 6 years) weren't too bad, but that crust, all greasy with butter (or oil), was just making it inedible.

That's purely grease and oil that's in their crust. Hound Dog's is different.

Man I can't handle deep dish pizza, it's like eating a cake.

to those who are talking about the greasiness of pizza hut's crust, are you getting the pan pizza crust? 'cause that's the greasy one. the hand tossed and crispy crusts are much better.

Correct me if I'm wrong since I've only had Zachary's once, but I don't think it has a cornmeal crust, which is indicative of the Chicago style.

I can't even look at that picture anymore. It makes me salivate.

though i do enjoy the one time i had chicago deep dish i honestly do not prefer it. also i am canadian. rather have poutine.

let me address this apparent double standard in two parts. first, pizza hut pizza causes a physical reaction in me that is unparalleled by any fast food. i shit pure grease after pizza hut. it's not even brown poopish spray like post-taco bell. it's crystal clear gravy from SNL. so in this regard, the double down and pizza hut are not in the same category. furthermore, the double down was brash, daring, provocative, appalling--it was IDM. it caused a public outrage. people of all walks of life were talking about it. it was like a big fuck you sandwich, and for that, i gave it its due respect and enjoyed it once as a novelty. this piece of shit cheesy bites pizza is none of the above. people are accepting it as the logical progression in a line of increasingly ridiculous pizzas that try to solve the problem of having seemingly inedible crust. just make simple, tasty crust! i think the line should've been drawn after stuffed crust. what's next? chicken nugget crust? taco bell bean burrito crust? hot dogs with handles? donut sticks with tampon wings?

a donut stick on a string for full coffee submersion would be awfully handy... but there are mental images that would just not... yeah, would not work out.

I had a friend who worked at pizza hut in high school. they literally spray the pan pizzas with grease before and after they go into the oven.

I just had a Schlotzsky's personal pan pizza - really good, actually, for a 5.00 pizza.
