Bacon Bloody Mary

I made some Sloe Vodka and am gonna fuck myself up with it over the next few days. I may top it off with a slice or two of pig but for now I am undecided.

the other day my lightweight housemate was throwing this sloe gin cocktail called a Wibble down her neck... if you're feeling experimental you can replace the various gins with vodkas and try it out for yourself. it's a bit girly but then there are men in this thread talking about drinking white russians, so...

 

* 25ml Plymouth Gin,

* 25ml Sloe Gin

* 25ml Grapefruit Juice

* 10ml Fresh Lemon Juice

* 10ml Blackberry Liqueur

* 5ml Sugar Syrup

 

just shake and strain. but i think the gin version would work better. i've honestly never even heard of sloe vodka before.

I have actually made gin martini's but instead of an olive I threw a stuffed cherry pepper in there. the pepper has prosciutto and provolone in it. it was quite good.

i wonder what a pepper stuffed with mascarpone or fetta would be like in a martini. hmmm. maybe i should plan a savoury cocktail night, zole!

there is no bacon grease at all. its used to infuse the vodka but then its filtered so you have a smokey bacon flavor in the vodka.

Haven't ever done it before but I got a load of damsons and sloes earlier in the year as it was a great year for them. I'm doing damson gin because it's fucking lush. Cracked out the sloe vodka as a new experiment the other day and was very impressed. Basically just whack the sloes/damsons in a load of cheap gin/vodka, leave for a good few months and you're sorted. I would offer you some but due to current day envelopes being rubbish, it would soak through if I sent you some.

my mum always said you should add sugar to sloe gin as well.

 

honestly i'm not a huge gin drinker - someone's undoubtedly going to accuse me of sacrilege or an undeveloped palate but i prefer a vodka martini. with a twist rather than an olive.

 

anyway if you're compelled to give me some booze i do live in the same city as you.

i don't think i've really overdone it before, i came close one night at a classy tiki/devil themed bar earlier this year, drinking martini after martini until i almost started crying over how beautiful the girls behind the bar were. i always feel really ashamed the day after getting that drunk even if i don't say or do anything silly.

tbh Gin is the worst taste to wake up with. It takes fucking ages to go away. I've only ever had a terrible, life-changing experience on Whiskey. Occasionally I do have one though.

hmmm gin, Tanqueray is my favourite. The others like Londons, Finsbury, Sapphire, are almost a no go for me. Also Gimlet ftw.

Tanqueray is a good contender. I actually really like Bombay Sapphire. Hendricks is the overall winner for me though. With a slice of cucumber. mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Lemon juice is critical to a bloody mary imo. Brings everything together. Also I like other pepper sauces than just Tabasco. The gift sets are nice to have (includes like chipotle, jalapeno, habanero, etc.) for some variety. Clamato and old bay is a nice sea faring varient.

 

I also enjoy a michelada or chelada, which is beer mixed with tomato juice and pepper sauces. I usually use something lime, like miller chill and add a little extra vodka.

I feel a strong urge to try this drink. There's a place in San Marcos (about a half-hour from Austin) with killer bloody mary's.

 

I've never tried gin.

I normally don't like liquor all that much (I even despise vodka generally), but tequila is fucking delicious. Just don't ever cough after taking a shot. Ever.

oh man I had a bunch of these this summer at a Mexican place in NYC and they were divine. i would never in a million years picture myself drinking a beer with ice in it but these really hit the spot. good call.
