I think the first and last songs on Returnal were big missteps. The middle six are great and deserve praise, and I would be happy if that's how it was released. I guarantee Lopatin finished with those six, but he sandwiched it with those two piss tracks to distance himself, make it more of a challenge for the journalists who would be reviewing it. So when these idiots come into the rainbow middle of the album, they feel like they have been enlightened, but really they aren't musically intelligent enough to put there foot down. The bad news is for people like me who actually listen to whole albums at a time, who actually care about music, there will always be a sour taste when I think of that album. It's just unfortunate really.

Jesus Christ, this post is such a disaster.

Do you want me to respond?

I actually almost didn't add that part, good thing I did huh?

No, it's not, it's right on the spot! I agree wholeheartedly!

I'm close to burning a copy without the first song and replacing it with the original cd. (although I could of course always start the cd on track 2..)

yeah that first song isnt the best thing on the record. i'm wondering if it has something to do with Mego records indeed, as Mego put out loads of noisey records. still that's a great album.

that is a good point, maybe Daniel was just a bit frightened by being on the label and added those tracks to seem esoteric enough. sometimes we all want to fit in. musicians are their best when they remove as many obstacles as possible between their vision and the listener.

Nowt wrong with the first song, or the album

i think the first song could be fine, but to me it matters how things are presented. it just makes me question the album which isn't good. i'd still give the album four stars for sure.

thats such a good video, he comes off as a very disarming and i dont mean this negatively but the Jonah Hill of ambient music!

they exude a similar laid back personality

i quite like the last track actually! :sup:

the first track is a good, rough intro. it makes 'describing bodies' sound like the most sublime (relief) thing ever.. it's a good contrast.

does he have any albums or freebie releases of sunsetcorp or just youtube videos? im having trouble finding anything. im very intrigued because most just straight up sampling based music these days is derivative as hell, this is actually pretty cool

Check "Memory Vague".

you'll be happy to hear this, awepittance: Link removed

Chuck Person - Chuck Person's Eccojams Vol. 1

A release under a (seemingly) one-time alias, Chuck Person, covers exactly the material I like most from OPN, which is the chopped and screwed pop stuff you're referring to.

And yes, check out Memory Vague too—it's a DVDr which probably exists as a torrent somewhere.

Linked removed - even though it's rare as fook it *is* still copyrighted material

GAMES!

This ! I bought 'That We Can Play' a couple of hours ago, and I've already heard it three times ....

I need a full length album of this alias, 18 minutes of pure awesome is nowhere near enough :w00t:

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

great vid. why are they playing "Everything is Working" over the Demerol vid? Copyright issues I guess since it's an MJ song.

you know i did have that same experience when i first listened to the album back in October I think. i'll back down a bit.

i have a non sexual crush on daniel lopatin. I just finished listening to Eccojams vol1. such an elegant simplicity to it. It reminds me only conceptually of Mark Fell's stuff. anything more i should digest? Rifts is my favorite synthesizer album of his, but beyond that and returnal i have not heard anything else under that alias

is there an Eccojams vol 2?

eagerly awaiting my download to finish of Memory Vague

i love his stuff, though i find it a bit disappointing that there's so many followers of his sound, but he still does it better than any of them.

another thing/problem i have is that these so called followers are all perhaps following things that came out 40 years before [popul vuh ashra tangerine dream and some new age albums of all time

pretty much, it's redundant calling 'em followers. Anyone who has owned a synth has made this stuff, in their more contemplative moments.

The tracks just need to be refined and expanded beyond the rough draft idea stage. Then again some people (stoners, or people with slower brain waves) eat this stuff up. So whatever. At least he's not using nasty noises.

Ecco Jams is so great in the car, I was listening to it yesterday. I made sure to buy two copies. I too want a volume two, and I wrote him on twitter last year, he said perhaps.
