Oh God I hope I don't get banned for this

Hello thur, first time poster, short while lurker.

This is my question and I swear to God I am not trolling.

Why does FL Studio seem to get the hate that it does? I've only just started to attempt to try to succeed mildly in creating music and FL Studio was the first thing I downloaded so I'm not really sure what it's like compared to some others. So far though, it seems OK. One of the only minor gripes I have with it currently is not being able to zoom in close enough to edit on the Piano Roll or the Playlist accurately. I know it's main use is for trance and hip hop and those kind of "bro" genres so what do you guys normally use when you're trying to create stuff?

well it used to be a bit of a toy when it came out but now it's very powerful. chassis' long answer is a bit right i guess but there are talented signed artists using it.

also, it's sequencer is not what you'd call conventional so some people like it and some don't

There are certain groups in the electronic production community who will automatically disregard any tool that wasn't made by a bearded, swamp-dwelling eccentric using all analog(ue) parts made before 1980.

It doesnt help that there are 5 million 14 year olds on youtube making horrible horrible generic techno with it.

sure, everyone's gotta start somewhere, and fl studio is great for beginners, it's just that ..

since fl studio became popular, the internet is littered with this endless stream of "my first song!! cOMMENT!!!1" crap. these people don't take time to critically evaluate their work.

with that said though, there are lots of skilled producers using fl studio, so there's no reason to hate on the program itself.

haha the beat in that video is definitely NOT his first beat unless he has some kind of well constructed loop pack.

yeah, FL gets a bad rap because it somehow turned itself into a rite of passage for youngsters with shit taste in electronica.

when it comes down to it, it's still just like any other DAW. anyone with the know-how can still write great music with it.

I used FL for close to 10 years until I switched to Live 2 years ago.

It's a great introduction to producing and synthesis.

As mentioned, haters gon' hate...

Just use whatever works and whatever you enjoy.

Of course, that's coming from me. I use reason, so I have a massive inferiority complex. :P

Reason wrecked my head. Too many knobs too much shit.

I do, on occasion, rewire it through ableton though. Just because the synth are so cool and I have confidence now to fuck with all the knobs. :braindance:

(on a side note, we need and ekt emoticon)

You can make good/crap music on anything.

Just use what you have and do what you do, but don't be crap.

The great Spanish romantics spent more time discussing the canvas they were using than actually painting. This is why they were so great.

FL Studio gets quite a lot of love on WATMM actually....only idiots would dismiss a program outright. Like many people have said, you can make awesome music with anything...

I'm a big FL fan!

I've always used Fruity since version 3.0 i think. I've only mildly jumped to Ableton a couple of years ago because of the easy on the fly record capabilities that i kind of miss in FStudio. But still, at times i jump back to Fruity because Ableton's GUI just annoys me.

We don't hate the program. There's nothing wrong with the program. We hate the majority of idiots who make shitty music with it.

I've always used a simple wav editor, drum machine/sampler, and synth for everything. It really doesn't matter what tools you use so long as you practice and learn to use them well. There's no contest for using the finest software/equipment that I know of, so use what works for you.

You could make some pretty nice music with a microphone, audacity and the internet if you put your mind to it.
