Korg Kronos

I'm mildly excited.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

"Heart" - analogue

"Mind" - digital

This is the next step in their Monotron strategy. Probably bolting the filter on the end of a budget VA.

That would be my guess too. I'm surprised there hasn't been a hybrid since the microwave I?

Edit: apart from the evolver.

and the Waldorf Q+

and the Radikal Technologies Spectralis

which are both big $$$ compared to evolver

and also didn't have near the success of evolver (though I guess you could say the Spectralis has had 'boutique' success).

My guess is VA with good wavetable implementation, the phrase sampling ala radias (hence the reversed stuff).

Lets say, xy pad, real time time stretching of samples (nothing new to korg stuff).

I'd love to see it as an electribe but i'm guessing it will be more of a VA/Workstation mash up with drum pads and likely just a recordable sequencer, but no electribe style grid. I'd love it to be a new electribe, I would die. But i'm quite sure the teaser would be a lot more technos and dub step if that were the case.

The drums in the clip though sound more samples ala workstation/electribe though, granted the radias did pretty decent in this department. This is certainly not marketed in the same way as their workstations, granted I keep getting the feeling it's the next Oasys or as i've now read on some forums, maybe just the next OS with a ton of new features.

They MAY add the monotron filter on it maybe on one synth part, but i'd have a hard time thinking they'd make it fully polyphonic with that filter, as for even 16 voices that would mean 16 analog filters, which would mean $$$ and not in line with the marketing of a VA. Sure they could add a mono filter input/output routing option (ie 16 voices in mono thru the filter then out to fx/imagining) but big companies like Korg pretty much never implement that type of thing. THough I guess with all the analog hype these days, it could maybe work just saying HEY REAL ANALOG HERE ON A POLYPHONIC VA. BUt I dunno. It never seems to happen with big companies, but I guess there may be a GLIMMER of hope since korg managed to put out the fully analog monotron for under 100 bucks, but there's the quality of everything in a crispy digital Korg VA going thru cheap parts so it can use an analog filter and not be too expensive that would seem to make a R & D team have to give up on that and just say "if you want analog buy a monotron and run the kronos thru it yay!

Though then again, it could finally be korg really trying to compete with the Virus, since the radias was a step in that direction but still very very far off.

I still think VA though cuz of the whole Kronos son of Gaia thing . Although that doesn't really make much sense either since cronos was pwned by gaia's plan via zues to eff up his chances of his son not killing him.

EFFIN' LULLZ

MAP: $2,999

KORG CHANGES THE GAME YA'LL

lmao. so lame. They shoulda just released a $250 vst that does all of this and more. I hate these kinds of Workstation interfaces. I'd buy a Roland Fantom if I had a desire for a workstation. It's got a good interface. I love korg but I could care less about most of this stuff.

That said, it *is* a decent piece of kit for the market it's going after. Lot's of synth options not found on a portion of workstations. Granted most people that use these things don't care that much about programming synth sounds.

not that i really want one of these as it seems way too expensive. but maybe in 15 years when they're tragically unhip for those easy jazz and prog-rock dad guys and you can pick one up for brass buttons it could be quite a useful instrument. in the meantime... meh.
