When I was a kid, my dad had this one...

Rambo Gil Hibben III Fighter Knife

This extremely impressive knife is designed by master knife maker, Gil Hibben. It measures 16-inches long, with a blade length of 11-inches, and comes with a top-grain leather sheath. The first-class weapon features a laminated wood handle, stainless steel guard, and 420-grade stainless steel blade. You'll know what it feels like to be a muscle-bound warrior with this in your hand, at your hip, or on your wall!

I don't know if he still has it.

rambo would carry the Busse Battle Mistress..

BusseBattleMistress.jpg

quite possibly one of the toughest knives ever made..

forged from busse's propietary INFI steel.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNerD3edtO4&feature=player_embedded#!

here's a guy attempting to break it after 80 minutes worth of youtube footage,

during which he

1) stabs it through industrial gauge sheet metal

2) stabs it through wood and bends it

3) stands on it with the tip of the knife through a clamp, putting 225 lbs worth of pressure on the tip

the knife amazingly held all of his weight regardless of where he applied the pressure

4) sticks it through a pipe and attemps to break it with leverage

5) chops it through concrete blocks for a solid half hour

6) stabs it through concrete blocks repeatedly

7) hammers the knife (that 3lb hammer again) through wood, conrete, and heavy metal

8) repeatedly pounds on the knife locked in a vice with 3 lb hammers

9) finally ends up just pounding the knife with the hammer through pure steel piping to break it

and there's a lot more punishment i'm missing..

in the end he actually ends up breaking it,

but all in all there is no other knife on the market that endured ANYWHERE close to as much punishment as this knife

took without breaking, shattering, or chipping to pieces. just skip to 5 minutes and watch.

eventually in part 10 the knife eventually breaks.

keep in mind there are zero knives on the market that endured this much punishment. none.

really this is the only knife worthy of Rambo's hands.

Yes there is something about a good knife. Nothing looney but warm and comforting. I do a lot of outdoor shit so need one, but when I am at home I am happy knowing I have a good blade to hand, and I mean this in the most positive way.

I got one of these

My inner OCD kept cringing while watching that knife test video - does the guy not know that just a foot away from him is what looks like a propane/air tank of some kind? One stray shard from anything into that thing and you'd have a much more interesting video...

haha, he's kind of a nut in a way.

the idea that a knife is a good knife if it passes oddly destructive tests

that don't pertain to practical field applications is kindof weird.. and i'm

not sure what he's trying to prove.. he just keeps hacking and smashing until

they break even when its obvious this kind of durability is NOT necessary

for a quality and dependable survival/utility knife that would keep someone

alive when shit hits the fan.

but then again i don't know.. perhaps one day i will find myself in a situation

where i need to chop through huge metal pipes, bust through cement walls and industrial sheet metal, and

stand on my knife with all of my weight..

i think that kind of situation is called an apocalypse,

and during one maybe he will turn out to be the wisest of all.

his videos really make me lol though

through the years, a man peoples a space with images of provinces, kingdoms, mountains, bays, ships, islands, fishes, rooms, tools, stars, horses and people. shortly before his death, he discovers that the patient labyrinth of lines traces the image of his own face.

would totally pay 850+ for one if i were a bit more comfortable financially!

maybe i should just order one and save a little cash here and there for the two years i'd wait for it.

well not to derail the thread away from peaceful pastures

but the guy who makes those 21 foot rule videos does have

a solid point. a person with an edged blade or knife can do serious

damage to someone carrying a gun that does not have it in his hands.

even more so if they have no idea the attack is going to occur.

im pretty sure he gets his information from some studies that

were done for law enforcement officers which explained that

there's only a mere couple seconds worth of time that an officer

can react to an ambush with a knife.

prison stabbings are a great example of this.. no matter how well

trained and armed it still happens and usually ends up costing guards their lives.

prisoners ambush unsuspecting targets and hide the knife while charging

only to unleash stabbing frenzies that kill extremely quickly.

I've been looking for a new knife, something to carry daily, as most of the ones I have are too large or too heavy to carry all day. And I'm not too keen on belt holsters or any of that other odd stuff.

A nice small spring assisted folding tactical knife with a tanto blade on it, that can really take a beating... any recomendations?

Benchmade or Spyderco for sure. My mini griptillian has been through a ton for a sub 3" folder. They're like 75 bucks (give or take) but you do get your moneys worth with benchmade. They do have spring assisted opening ones(not sure if the griptillian specifically has that option but prob does) as well and a variety of blade types for every common model. I only mention spyderco because they're solid as well from what I hear. I just have no real experience using them.

^In the process of food preparation, I frequently use a knife for cutting stuff & spreading stuff on other stuff. These are both good.

i have a leatherman that i use a lot. unfortunately, it went missing recently.

ZivRz.jpg

features in descending order of usefulness:

1. scissors

2. pliers

3. bottle opener

4. knife

5. other stuff

i did actually try to use the saw once to cut up some branches for firewood. it was pretty useless, unfortunately.
