Running out of original band/project names

What happens when every name has been thought of? When you think of something, search for it, and inevitably some person with a myspace profile is using the name already. Is there a point where it becomes necessary to legally allow duplicates, or will we be forced to having names like Coolband0232011. For instance there is another glasse in Poland, a house DJ. I thought of the name on my own and used it, and so did this person, (although I think it is their actual name also). He has some success, but what if we both did? Would one of us be forced to change?

I suppose the chances of 2 coolname's becoming famous are quite slim.

It happened with Richie Hawtin as Plasticman (the dubstep dj of the same name also made it big and is now called Plastician).

My mate called himself "the saint" on our club flyers when we DJ'd in Coventry. A well known DJ from Southampton also called The Saint turned up at one of our gigs to check him out - it was all laughs at the bar but he never used that dj name again (I dont know what was said...)

You don't need the most original name to succeed. Look at Salem.

I google for a name and when I don't find any results anymore for the made up word / phrase I use it

i have the same problem. almost everything has been used before. it's really hard to come up with something that nobody's used yet and sounds/looks good!

not really true. You have to make names up. Like Analord or Quaristice. They sound pretty strange at first but if you google for them you will only find these releases and nothing else which is a big plus for the release

Didn't this happen to (former?) watmm knob-twiddler Mosca? IIRC some other dude named Mosca jumped onto the dubstep scene out of nowhere... damn, I feel for the O.G. mosca...

I just use my actual name for the most part, but that's more because I haven't been able to think of a music name I like for more than a day.

not really true. You have to make names up. Like Analord or Quaristice. They sound pretty strange at first but if you google for them you will only find these releases and nothing else which is a big plus for the release

yeah you can make all sorts of stuff up, sticking different words together, anagrams, etc. but they don't always sound good or look right, at least to me..

even the really bizarre stuff i've made up recently, i then go and google it and some fucker is already using it!!

it's a lot easier to just use your real name, or make up an alias, but i don't think that's as 'cool'....

all the best names have been taken. "Analord" is a brilliant name! :) but you're talking about album names there. artist/ DJ names are a lot harder i find.

Aphex had the same problem with his name being already used by some audio technology enterprise, didn't he ?

i can't believe that Hype Williams group didn't bother to google the name... I mean come on! He's a famous video director!

when i google my alias, all i get are links to me and to head deformities. nothing but me comes up when i search quiliuq. So I think I have some names that won't be touched by some lazy non googling people like Hype Williams.

Yes! I was confused as fuck by this new Hype Williams for the longest time. Lots of Hype Williams videos used to have his name flashed up in the intro so if you were alive in the last ten years you should know his name.

I just use a slightly changed version of my name. I don't think its hard to come up with something that isn't already in existence but when bands want to have a simple direct name like 'the white lies' it's bound to have occured to someone else

I've pondered a couple new aliases for some projects, I usually use the Google technique too. [band Name} + music

Death Metal or punk bands are easy peasy, these took me all the time it took me to write them..

Richie = plastikman, not plasticman.

Also this question seems to me to be the same as asking what happens when every idea for a song has been used...

In 200 years, if humans are still around, we'll probably be just using our regular names.
