The beauty of mystery...

i noticed that people are still asking about the identity of the tuss - is it really AFX? i think its better the truth never comes out. even though we all have our opinions i think people have to realise how great it is to have this secret - like a goose that keeps laying golden eggs [to quote david lynch] all the tuss mystery is part of what makes it special, fake tuss, fake analord, etc. its awesome and keeps everyone talking and inspires creativity. historically, when secrets are revealed people usually start losing interest so best keep it all under wraps. its like all the great mysteries - what happened at roswell? who killed laura palmer? its better we never find out. what i wanna know now is Who is Th'idiot cos i love his/her/its music [dont tell me though - I think i might know LOL]

I agree! i don't want to know the in's 'n out's of any artists/musicians boring live's from forums or facebook or twitter!! or even from interviews really.. it spoils the mystery. i prefered things when i was a kid and didn't know anything about a musician or a band, and could pick up a CD and look at the inlay artwork and imagine all sorts of interesting weird stuff about them, like them being aliens from another planet, or from the future.. or something :)

With you 100%. I don't make music either so when I listen to Aphex the whole thing sounds so magical and mysterious because my knowledge on how to create such sounds is zero. I like that. One of my best mates is a profesional musician and says he struggles to listen to any music at all nowadays, because he does it all day. Fuck that!

Saying that the Tuss isn't my thing at all, I don't like most of it, but funny because he forged such a sound with it we all refer to things as 'Tussy'. And know exactly what is meant and how it will sound.

i think the mystery thing worked a lot better before every man and his dog got on the interwebs. word of mouth was more important back when -- and gossip, secrets, guess-what-i-just-heard is a phenomenal way to do that. now all the latest gossip is on google... "aphex twin is an alias of the tuss." it doesn't really work anymore; the hive has made up its mind! at the end of the day, i don't give a shit whether or not the tuss is aphex. in fact, if anything, i find the whole debate irritating!! especially when the 20,000th "is aphex the tuss?" topic shows up again. jesus christ, leave it alone. it's not even that epic -- not compared to drukqs, ICBYD, SAW85-92, etc.

the appropriate domain of mystery is listening to SAW85-92 and wondering what's this about, what was he thinking when he made this?

far less appropriate to jerk people around regarding what music is yours and whether there will be another album!!

Although most of us don't want to admit it, there's a certain stigma attached to listening to Richard's music. That's why people are so passionate in trying to prove that the Tuss is actually him or not. They don't want to think someone can beat him at his own game. They also don't want to think Richard is done releasing music.

If you're too lazy to check out the stuff about BMI, basically it means the copyrights of all the songs belong to richard, richard is credited as the songwriter (as you can see he is on IMDB), the money for the tracks goes to richard etc.
