I honestly have a hard time believing this whole Tuss debate is going on. Not only is there the BMI shit, but there's the RDJ composer tags from Rephlex, the "you must purchase the whole album" thing on Rephlex, there's the fact that a "brother sister duo" named a song "Death Fuck", the GX-1 business, the fact that all his recent live songs, and Analord 10 sound extremely similar to The Tuss... the list goes on forever.

why would a brother and sister duo definitely not name a track "Death Fuck" ? *shrug*

tbh, at the end of the day, i don't really care who it is, and i'm not that bothered in finding out all the facts.

imo it's more interesting not knowing all the details of everything/something - which the whole point/topic of this thread.

after pondering this, i think it's actually much more likely because he's tired of being "The Aphex Twin".. and even more likely is that he's tired of all his wanky fans!! so why not release under brand new pseudonyms...... and fuck it all off. makes sense to me.

if what you describe is the case, RDJ tired of being "the aphex twin" and his fans, then surely he would take most of the blame himself? (if he wanted to play the blame game, that is)

given the way he's conducted himself since pretty much the beginning of his music career, being the mysterious electronic guru, he MUST have expected, and even wanted, his fanbase to be the way that it is (geeky & obsessive)

if he does want everyone to fuck off, it's not showing. if he didn't want to be a mystery his fans will talk forever about, then he'd stop being a mystery, no? (probably over-simplifying it there, but meh)

thing is, maybe he thinks it's a bit late now to be changing the aphex persona? how would ppl react to him suddenly using twitter/facebook (and whatever else there is now) ? the mysterious thing he has going for him would probably drop a bit, and who knows... that could mean promoters wouldn't offer him as much $$$ as he'd no longer be seen as such a draw card ("OMG!!! APHEX TWIN!!!! RARE SHOW! BUY A TICKET !")

these days, just the fact that an electronic musician doesnt publicly use one of those social networking sites pretty much makes them an obscure figure. by staying away from those, the "aphex twin" name might stay an expensive one.

not saying that's the one and only reason he MIGHT (remember.. im just guessing all this) be acting the way he is; i mean he's nearly 40 now, fair play to him for not being over the moon at the idea at being stuck on facebook - he might genuinely be not interested in any of that social shit and just wants to focus on making tunes, and if thats the case then that's great. (.........as long as we get to hear it some day hehe)

Actually I think he's warmed up to the fans a bit since the earlier days. Sure he doesn't release constantly, but he does things for the fans now and then (like releasing all those outtakes from Analord last year. He didn't used to put out fucking outtakes of anything.) He even puts up with even the absolute most idiotic of his fans now.

1. Legal reasons. Warner is all WE ARE TEH ® © "APHEX TWIN" name in the US or something. Maybe it was an attempt to dodge giving the album to them. Releasing as "Aphex Twin" is perhaps not something he can really do on rephlex. But then what of Analord 10?

2. Promotion reasons. Just to cause a fuss. Like I said, this worked better in the 90s.

3. Artistic reasons. There is a lot of fucking pressure on the Aphex Twin name. Can you imagine being in his shoes? Naming something "The Tuss" and denying it's him buys him a bit of space to blow off some steam and just faff about a little... something fun to make; a quick little side sketch while he is (hopefully) working on something insanely huge, complicated, and new.

4. The confusion, the clones, causes people to think other peoples' stuff is his (i.e. Monolith). Probably doesn't hurt his reputation... and on the flip side, it causes the rumor anoraks to swarm someone on rephlex that maybe possibly could be aphex, possibly get into them, sell more etc.
