42%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ooooooooooooooooooooarrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!! lol

I'm guessing this is a bit like the Apple Jack I posted a few pages back. I'm also guessing Apple Jack and Cider Brandy are bastardized versions of Calvados (apple brandy).

I think Apple Jack is apple brandy mixed back with some neutral grain spirits to bump the proof. Back in the 1700s or whatever, the States used to produce stuff like this with fractional freezing, so it was hugely variable in terms of results; hence the modern resort of mixing a weaker apple brandy with spirits. Honestly, it tastes pretty good, though.

it's actually the Scots who have much more of a thang for that awfull Buckfast shite.. we English are a much more refined bunch, what.

Scots drink Buckfast for breakfast! before the whiskey, beer, and vodka on toast.

spoken like someone who's never drunk the tonic in his life. kaini's referring to the well-established distinction between the buckfast available on Great Britain and that available on Ireland which differs substantially in alcohol content, caffeine content, and flavour. but as far as i'm aware it's ALL made in Devon.

irish buckie is made in grants distillery in clonmel

no buckie is made by the monks any more - it's all made in various bottlers

  Quote
In January 2010 a BBC investigation revealed that Buckfast was mentioned in 5,638 crime reports in the Strathclyde area of Scotland from 2006–2009, equating to three a day on average. One in 10 of those offences was violent and the bottle was used as a weapon 114 times in that period. Further, in a survey last year of 172 prisoners at a young offenders’ institution, 43 percent of the 117 people who drank alcohol before committing their crimes said they had drunk Buckfast. In a study of litter in a typical housing project, 35 percent of the items identified were Buckfast bottles.[13][14]

I love how Buckfast is made in the English south-west, yet most people outside Scotland have never even heard of it. I'm from down there and I never came across it until I got pissed in Scotland. I guess the equivalent for English chavs is Lambrini...

Oh dear not Lambrini. The only thing you can do with that is play Lambrini hands. Get two large bottles of Lambrini (or small bottles if you're a pussy) and strap one to each hand. Until you drink them you can't take them off for any reason. Pissing is quite a problem.

Nasty shit though. It's almost standard to be sick afterwards. Another shit drink:

in short, irish bucky has slightly more alcohol, slightly less caffeine, and a less sweet/vanilla-ish flavour. it also comes in a brown bottle rather than green if i remember.

btw kaini, my british buck definitely still says "made by the benedictine monks at buckfast abbey" on the bottle (i've got an empty one lying around). am i being lied to by monks? fucking monks.

so does mine, and yes you are.

irish buckie tastes more like cough syrup, and it has NO vanilla flavouring. about ten years ago they tried to switch to the green-bottle variant, and there was nearly rioting in the streets. didn't last long before they changed back.
