It's just good music, most people can tell.

nah man, its just silly white people liking good music after non-whites acknowledge its goodness. its all rigged. what i am saying isn't perpetuating institutionalized racism whatsoever

*end angry sarcasm*

lol don't be so defensive. it's just something i've noticed. really i'm only wondering what appeals to people about wu-tang when other great hip hop acts are marginalized by suburban audiences. i'm sure it's marketing and then, yes, their debut was a classic. this actually came about after reading a number of music sites lists of the best albums of the decade and noticing that the only hip hop anyone ever mentions is wu-tang solo acts and anticon shit. but then that's probably a very narrow demographic that i'm basing this assumption on. so in closing, shit thread.

i actually was into tori amos back in the mid nineties (earlyish high school for me) because I used to play piano and thought she was kinda hot, but primarily to mack on chicks who thought it was cool that a guy was into tori amos

36 chambers is a classic along with Rae's OB4CL and GZA's Liquid Swords. These three albums make Wu stand out from any other hip hop "supergroup" due to the their ill flow and amazing production by RZA. Plus, a lot of Ghost's solo shit is pretty good too.

I think the white kids were just scared at offending wu-tang clan, which, after all, ain't nuthin to fuck with.

i grew up around people listening to loads of hiphop, so wu-tang never really stuck out as the only shit people listened to.

I don't see why Ghostface isn't widely considered as "great" as GZA/raekwon.

I think overall he's a solid rapper and just as good, if not better, than Gza and Raekown. Only thing is he didn't have an amazing album like GZA and Rae did. I think Ironman and Supreme Clientele are good albums, but I don't think they compare to Liquid Swords and Only Built. If he had a classic/amazing album, I think he would hands down be the best MC in Wu.

I saw ghostface 3 months ago, shit was too wack. he came out way late and only mc'd 3 songs, then the peeps he brought spit his own verses for him while he grinded with the entire black female population of burlington in the back of the stage

every indie music fan, electronic music fan, anyone vaguely nerdy, they love wu-tang. it's like an unspoken rule among middle class white males. is it the mythology built up around the group? the kung fu references? is this like the wire for rap?

i like them too btw. i'm just interested in this phenomenon.

wtf?? i don't even like rap/hip hop .. who the fuck is wu-tang???

don't generalize.

Ghostface is my favorite wu mc. if meth could be consistently great,he would rock shit all over everyone, but he isn't so he doesn't. but when he hits fierce he is untouchable.

I think i'd be just as entertained by that as i would if he put his all into an actual set.

Better than MF Doom, who got fucking impostors to do his shows for him...

I still side with Meth, even though his only brilliant album is Tical. His flow is just super fuckin smooth

Tori Amos is incredible. She puts way too many songs on her albums now and not all of them are worth it but From the Choirgirl Hotel is an absolute masterpiece.

He did an actual set when I saw him, it was well solid. Showed up an hour late though.

yeah ive seen some recent pics of tori amos and shes definitely gotten old kind of like bjork, she would probably be better off nott rying to look like shes still 25 though.

What wake said. I think Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) is one of those albums that cross genre boundaries by simply being really good.

i think it's kinda hilarious to imagine a wu tang gig in a frozen ass finland (did they actually do one ?), the clan itself will be literally shocked by the whiteness of the people there.

i find most acclaimed hip hop stuff that's being mentioned in the indie world as something that's outside of my world, maybe it's jsut for americans, or maybe just for american blacks, don't think it's that universal as many claim. i'm not into music that puts the lyrics on the forefront in general, so that's a big factor too..
