Didn't Jeff Mills do this too? I love this idea, but honestly both he and Carl Craig's end result (though massively orchestrated and professionally executed) were repetitive and not that exciting for me.

So far the only artist I've come across who combines orchestra with drum machines, acid even, in an interesting, more melodic way is The Carrier Wave.

Someone needs to invent a genre of music that makes you see things without the aid of other substances. I mean the sounds/patterns literally stimulate the part(s) of my brain that "sees" things and put on a show. Like a sound hologram of a specific image painted/sculpted by the artist. That would be awesome.

Albums would be released with disclaimers like "Do not listen while operating heavy machinery", etc.

On second thought, that could be really bad too. Nevermind, don't do it guys.

i thought you were going to say Orbital, but does this really count? What im hearing is orchestral sampling banks, not an orchestra. And if this counts then RDJ album would be in this canon as well, but i thought the poster meant real orchestra + drum machine

this came out in 1983 and sounds more cutting edge to me than 99% of music in 2011

I didn't think he meant limited to live orchestra but I guess you're right about Orbital, I hadn't thought of them.

The most exciting thing I've heard in a long while.

I'd be curious to hear what you guys think about Zs. They're a band who've been around for a few years and are making some of the more interesting stuff that I can think of. I'm intrigued by their idea of the band as operating as "one big muscle", which is apparent in the second section of 'Nobody Wants to Be Had' and some of their older works.
