Hot Sauce

Recommended Posts

Good thread timing :) I just bought all these for my boss yesterday. He's a major sauce head and loves the fire, and the mild good tasting stuff, plus he makes beef jerky every weekend and brings it into work, so that honey sauce is prolly gonna be great next week :)

He's a bit of an "aficionado" on sauces, in regards to taste, usefulness (on jerky, steak, chicken, etc), and then heat separate. He's had none of these with exception to some other form of Dave's Insanity sauce (i think the more mild one). We'll see who goes to the hospital on the Ghost Pepper Sauce. I will report back to this thread with his opinions once he's tried some stuff.

I used to put this stuff on everything a few years back. It's delicious, but I seriously over-did it, which is what I'm currently doing with Huy Fong Sri Racha, and also Huy Fong Chili Garlic Sauce:

Also, I've generally replaced tabasco with Cholula%20Original.jpg or 32423.jpg,

with a preference for Cholula, but that's mostly on eggs 'n mexican stuff. Tabasco just tastes like vinegar to me now.

edit: I've sort of toned down the spice level in recent years in favor of flavor. I can handle way too much spice, but it's an empty sort of pleasure, like sending one into your sock.

Looks like my first image isn't working, but it was Jamaica Hell Fire: Doc's Special (the vaguely greenish stuff, which is apparently the "hottest hell fire").

Also, Ms. Cholula and Mr. Tapatio should totally hook up, if they haven't already.

I put this on everything... but i have a feeling some of you guys are gonna tell me that this is the "lite-beer" version of hot sauce... but i'm not a hot sauce connoisseur.

You're right, also I'ma tell you that it's pretty much red colored vinegar. It has no taste for me, it's just sour, and in no way related to the hotness or flavor that actual chilis give off. It really is the lamest kind of "hot" there is.

Try the sriracha sauce mentioned before, it's not hotter than Tabasco, but it has a taste. Beginner's hot sauce if you will. You can't use it the same way though, it's more like Ketchup.

I'm quite fond of:

HotMamas_YellowHabaneroNo15_gross.png

It's not very hot, but very tasty. It's relatively expensive though, 10 bucks a bottle, and it only lasts me a month or so.

Guest Adjective

Lately I've been getting habanero's from Kroger and taking little bites with my meal. I like the fear and suspense of it, because some bites it forgets to burn, and then haunts my mouth for a while after the meal.

Sriracha is a good flexible sauce, wets the nose, stinks slightly, great on processed or fast foods especially. Was my goto for a long time, but I don't keep it stocked anymore.

I also love most of the novelty vinegar+pain "death" sauces, I can't remember what specific ones taste like though. Usually only try those through friends that keep one around.

I love hot pepper sauce. The best stuff I ever had was in Barbados with fried flying fish. The bottle pictured is the sort of colour it was but I never found out the producers of the specific one. Every one I've tried back home is quite different. But still nice.

When I go back I hope to find out what it is and buy shed loads.

Cholula and Tapiato are both flavorful and spicy, but a bit spendy.

For cheap hot sauce, Louisiana is great. As previously described, it's a casual hot sauce.

Now, if you like tangy, yummy, eccentric hot sauce, it's all about:

large_Tiger+Sauce.jpg

I put Tiger Sauce on a lot of stuff, even popcorn. Just a smattering of drops on popcorn + seasoning salt + parmesan + terrible movies = :emotawesomepm9: .

Do any of you folks have any of those novelty hot sauce shops near you? Or is that just a local thing (La Brea Farmers Market)? I sort of vaguely remember seeing one in Florida once, too. You know, places with all of the aforementioned sauces, but also stuff like "Blow it Out Your Ass" or "Saddam Insane" or even worse (see below), or whatever?

Looking at most of the labels in said hot sauce shop, I feel like it's assumed that only social conservatives are into spice:

Not fancy, but works well with a lot of stuff. Better than Tabasco (imo) for eggs especially.

It took 3 pages for someone to mention this? Louisiana hot sauce is awesome. I like the habanero flavour best.

Also tried some blair's death suace, which is really spicy, great stuff, and is up there on the delicious scale too.

That lousiana stuff is good, but it makes EVERYTHING taste like hotwings. Great for some foods but not for everything.
