funnily enough terminator is considered an "auteur" classic at least by some rooskie fellow:

Let me take an honest guess. He would rather the brutality have been replaced by long pauses in the action to be filled with either clumsy social critique played poorly by stereotypical character actors, with perhaps some colour filters dropped over the scenes, interspersed with inexplicable nonsensical romps around the setting whilst hip music is filtered through the background scenery. And other such pointless screen fuzz.
