jules
there was an office type building in an ugly run down warehouse. there were all these grimy rooms and the bathrooms had rusty pull chain toilets. everything looked like it was sweaty. I peaked in one room and all I could see were legs sitting in a chair that was rocking back and forth. it was a very old man and his pajamas and slippers were tattered and torn. he grunted as I shut the door quickly. I went back to the main area and all these office doors opened up to the same room. it was a grimy u-shaped desk with bullet proof glass all around it. I sat down for a bit and I was comfortable. everyone in there was talking at the same time but I heard some funny stuff which made me ease up a bit. I turned and asked the guy next to me wtf this place was. he looked at me, facepalmed and said, "this is general banter." I had it when i was around 6 and I was having a terrible fever. I had a dream that I was as small as an ant and i was collecting small blades of grass. Then I saw my father and somehow he was holding a blade of grass which was somehow hellishly large, and the whole dream had this quiet claustrophobic hiss to it. This seems to be a very common type of nightmare. My friend also had a recurring dream of huge concrete blocks being carried along by really thin string accompanied by an unpleasant reedy sound. WTF. Why is it so disturbing and so universal? wow yes, a very strange type of dream indeed. I've only had 2 of them that I remember but they were the worst feeling in the world. I still can't really explain them to this day, as they did not use many symbols(i had no literal string or block), but here goes. Basically it involved the feeling of floating, in some sort of space, but with my body only occupying 2 dimensions, and a grinding noise, a screaming ear-shattering ring. I remember possibly some aspect of being an abstract spaceship, maybe from a video game or something, but being collapsed by some force that brought my body from 3 dimensions to 2. The feeling is unmatched to anything I could equate to in real life, but perhaps an intense sadness that makes you forget every other part of your body. Only colors and sharp, abstract shapes, as if I were one of these colored shapes, being split and flattened out. Same sort of too-fragile to survive, but surviving anyways, like the hair holding a concrete block, the essence of everything disturbing about a nail on a chalkboard in it's most abstract and pure form. amazing to me as i've never really heard about anybody else experiencing this kind of dream except for me. springymajig
Actually the nightmare I remember most vividly from my childhood is being chased around my house by a skeleton with glowing eyes... And a hawaiian shirt... And massive dreadlocks.... Silent Member
I too had these geometrical shapes and scale nightmares when I was younger, concrete blocks, low frequency rumbles and all. There was also string involved but mine was this kind, making screeching/dissonant noises as things grew / pulled / shrunk / tilted/ fell / closed in. Come to think of it, the dreams kind of looked like that picture, only in black and white. Tella
My dad used to tell me that he had nightmares where I would come home wearing a feather boa, and that I would come out of the closet (in his nightmare). He told me he woke up crying from these nightmares all the time, but it's funny because I am not gay at all. Guest hahathhat
they're not really nightmares, but i have these strange dreams about massive concrete structures. sometimes they're linear, sometimes odd curvy shapes, sometimes both.... sometimes highways down the road. Zephyr_Nova
Fuck, I hope my subconscious isn't going to be inspired to have another one of those tiny string supporting a massive object dreams after all this talk of it here. The last time I had one of those I must have been no older than 7. Really was the worst thing ever. OH! Fucking teeth related nightmares. I've had many of those since I got braces back in grade 6. I'll occasionally have dreams where there are horrible metal contraptions in my mouth with sharp edges cutting into my gums, or tightening until my mouth aches unbearably. Guest hahathhat
the fringe thread reminded me of fantastic nightmare ! Reveal hidden contents start of the dream, i was walking home, in some urban area. i'm walking by a car, and i see a red dot, like a laser pointer -- or a sniper bead. then the window gets shot out. i dive behind the car. blam, blam! i break for it and run. i get home, only to find out my family has been replaced with robots that look exactly like them. and they want to replace me too i think this is a deep-rooted human fear. the unholy terror of a visual duplicate that... isn't right. total recall hits on it, as do the shapeshifters in fringe. hits home even harder than the uncanny valley.
