random aphex apearances

I was at a party once (at Berlins WMF when it was still open) and there happened to be a minimal-techno DJ named Alberto Balsam. (without the 'l' ).

AFX nerd that I am, I nearly wet my pants; any similar random aphex appearances?

i work in sainsburys (supermarket) in cornwall, couple of months ago i was stacking shelves when the aphex twin wandered past. the woman he was with stood around near me looking at salads so i asked her if it was richard james she was with and she said yes. unfortunately the man himself did not return and she walked off

Seriously tho in response to the thread, I'd say when I met him backstage at Coachella in 2008. I never planned on getting backstage, didn't have a pass. Snuck in under the suggestion of SPD here of watmm (represent) lol

Camera wasn't working for photos properly so I switched to video and handed the camera to SPD while I frantically searched for a marker for him to sign some stuff, didn't ever find one but got a pen and he scribbled on my SAW 85-92 original release on CD, made do with what I could. I'd say it's random tho because even when I got backstage awhile after the show (after meeting up with some other watmm members) never expected to run into him, also I was pretty buzzed on some killer cali marijuana and $8 beers (good thing I had a few before the show, otherwise I would have broke the bank) One of the coolest moments of my life, he only has been in America once since then in the last decade as far as I know and that was in 2002. So I'm greatful I met the man. He also (if you listen close enough in the video) states he was planning on doing a 2 hour set at least since it took him so long to sort his visa out and hadn't been here for awhile, damn Coachella festival for only allowing him an hour set :angry:

he seems to be such a normal guy, doesn't consider himself a "star", just like one of us, that's what i call coolness. think drinking a beer and having a simple talk with him is all i would do. i bet he's getting tired of the same music-related questions all day long...

Yea, he did seem surprisingly cool. I'm sure just being around american fans can be a little off-putting too. Was funny to see Elijah Wood backstage at the Aphex show too. The music questions get old to him guaranteed. I remember hearing when he used to chat with people WAY long ago online it wouldn't be about music, it'd be about everyday stuff and different situations or partying type stuff. So he seems very down to earth in that aspect. I was just shaking my head when the guy tried dumping the demo cd on him and talking to him about programming and so-on. I didn't hover around really at all, just went up to meet him quick, you don't even see me in the video at all. All I said to him was "much respect" shook his hand and later got the signature quick later on while asking about the headphones (basically cause they were hangin off his backpack) Something tells me tho alot of people on this forum would try to start talking music with him, and if you try to deny it, you are only lying to yourself

No fucking way would I talk music to him. Last thing I would ever do.

Only me and SPD snuck backstage. There were a few other wattmers there yes, the few I remember were skabio, rezpeni, and dassler that I met up with. A few others went, but I didn't run into them.
