This subgenre contains so many gems, yet I have so much more to discover. Unfortunately, there are so many generic singles out there. I have been disappointed a couple times, actually. The big names I have in mind are:

Luomo (Force Tracks)

Akufen/Horror Inc. (Force Inc./Musique Risquée)

Farben/Jan Jelinek (Klang Elektronik/~Scape)

Isolée (Playhouse)

Ricardo Villalobos (Playhouse/Perlon)

MRI (Force Tracks)

Dub Taylor (Force Tracks)

SCSI-9 (Kompakt)

Markus Nikolai (Perlon)

The genre even got some recognition in the early 00s.

I was a big micro=house fan back during it's era...

Here's a overlooked gem by the MRI guys... The whole album is done in the Basic Channel style but a little more lighter and softer...

I remember stumbling upon this release in Discogs.com but I never listened to the samples. It sounds very impressive, I'm defiantly gonna check it out!

Can somebody explain the difference between microhouse and minimal?

microhouse is for gay men with small penises and minimal is for germans/richie hawtin?

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

I'll take a stab - microhouse borrows from minimal and glitch before it, and it uses heavy sample editing and more "melodic" house elements and traits overall. So it's too reliant of 4/4 beats and too dance-floor friendly to be glitch, but it uses the same "clicks and cut" sample methods. It's too poppy and melodic compared to more subtle synth and percussive heavy minimal techno, and the tempo tends to be slower and the sound "warmer." I'm sure their is a general attitude from it's fans and artists to distinguish itself from dull, non-hip tech-house. Which makes sense, because it's made by a lot of comically pretentious German dudes.

I just know Philip Sherburne coined the term around 2000, so lukesaibot and kakapo wrote, respectively, it was a phase and it crossovers a lot in context now. It seemed to catch on more than it should of. On a related note, I swear that Sherburne also described The Field as "nanotrance" but that didn't seem to take off...

nanotrance, lol

i wonder if it's possible to hear the faint noises of picohouse

GHOST: have you killed Claudius yet

To me micro house only refers to the size of the sounds used in the production of house music...

Sometimes it's very nice to scale down sounds to bring out the sensitivity, elegance and sophistication in a piece...

And their are even more reasons to use small sounds in production...

Yes, I forget the more literal meaning it describes in terms of production methods
