btw if you're coming to london - stay off the streets/public transport on weekdays between 7am - 9am and 5pm - 7pm. as iain said, there is nothing more irritating to a londoner than being slowed down by bumbling tourists not knowing what the hell they're doing and thinking it's hilarious.

Payback for all the times bumbling english fucks stand around the Seoul subway system scratching their arse and being obnoxious drunks.

You have to use your credit card to improve your credit rating....

My understanding was that by simply paying bills on time your credit improves. Is that incorrect?

no thats correct, but it doesn't affect credit nearly as much as paying monthly CC fees/bills. paying loans helps too, if you are a student or bought a house.

i heard it helps to have a very small amount left on the card to generate interest...but i dont know if thats true and Id feel asinine for trying that.

Pretty much nail on head there...credit card companies love people who have a little debt left over, it means you will be a regular user. That's probably the fastest way to improve your credit rating.

My point to the original poster was that getting a credit card and then cutting it up will not improve your credit rating, because without usage, the credit companies have no way to determine your trustworthiness as a customer.

you can use debit cards here in the US (and Im assuming the UK as well), but they do not improve your credit score other than paying previously mentioned bills, which even then is a negligible change in your score.

I used a debit card all the time until I realized I had one payment collected (EMS bill that I had no way of paying), so now Im trying to rebuild whatever is left of it.

Dude if you havent considered Manchester then have a look, the rent is reasonable (£400 - £500 if you want somewhere nice like Chorlton) and the nightlife is arguably not as good as London but loads to go and do there. Wish I was still there but circumstances meant I am now in Spain doing fuck all. Oh well.

I dunno what you guys are talking about in terms of rude Londoners. Both times I was over there I found everyone I ran into was quite friendly and helpful. Maybe it's cus I'm Canadian?

same here. maybe cus you're canadian and you approached them in a friendly and helpful way (with that face you make when you're really happy to be in a place, that you make sure you just want to ask for an info, and that you're not willing to bother someone further. at the same time, before opening your mouth). because you can help as a foreigner, maybe not with a direction, but you can help londoners too. for example, the last time.. nm

dunno about the rush hours, but talking to people in london is actually part of the city culture i think. it's evident to a foreigner.
