itunes sucks. I found winamp

Ive used itunes for a while with my ipod and it would only put about 20% of my files on my ipod. Winamp has a auto conversion function. I can put any thing on my ipod now and have it converted to any bit rate i want. Amazing. Ive been looking for this forever with small apps, but winamp ended up being the one. I hate that cause it is a bloated app but it works.

Winamp is amazing. Takes soo much less memory.. Itunes is just fucking clunky. Check out all the visualizers that are on there if you haven't yet. There are some pretty sweet ones and I'm pretty sure there are like thousands. Very entertaining. Especially under the influence of hallucinogens

I have been using Itunes for years and i never had a problem with it. I don't know where all the hate is coming from.

Bloat, rights management and lack of customisation were the three that put me off. Mainly the bloat.

Someone found Winamp? Did I zoom back to 1998?

Titter, yeah I was thinking that - it's still a great bit of software though. Well, the early versions anyway as I jumped ship pretty early after v5.0 and moved to Foobar2000

I never had to worry about the first two. And customization .. why would you want to customize??? i just use it to sync/listen, 99 percent of the time i will have it minimize.

i've been using winamp for many years and recently got a new laptop and installed a new version on there. but it has gone from being a easy install/set as default and use thing to a why-doesn't-it-do-this-as-standard thing

play cds? nope (an extra plugin really? that wont install)

play avi files? nope

bah

i actually installed itunes on another machine recently as i needed a free cd burner that could do gapless and i was sick of trying cheapass software that clamied to do it but once installed didnt. i wouldnt use it for listening to music though

iTunes for the Mac is great! I'm also not sure where are hate comes from, I dont find it bloated whatsoever. And what needs customizing? I think it's pretty amazing that I can buy music on my phone or rent movies from my TV. I wish it did play .flac though, I find myself converting to Apple Lossless a lot.

winamp converts flac on the fly to my ipod. Not bad. I dont have to worry about what files will work. Simple conversion. I like vlc as a player. but i needed something that did easy conversion with my ipod. Winamp i thank you

I don't mind Itunes, in fact its my main media player. It's just that when I'm playing games on my computer and want to listen to music at the same time it's a fact that Winamp requires so much less memory than itunes. Itunes also takes way longer to load up. Winamp is fast, easy, and convenient. You can dock it at the very top of your screen like a task bar or have it full screen. It's just better in every way.

For a Mac I think iTunes is fine, but I think the main people that have an issue are PC owners. I mean check out the difference in [unpacked] install size: iTunes 10.2.1 - 76.58Mb, Foobar2000 1.1.5 - 3.17Mb. That's quite a difference for something that does exactly the same thing...

i wouldnt say it does the EXACT same thing but your point is taken

I've been a Winamp user for years, but lately it's seemed to become a pretty big memory hog the more & more they add to it with each version.

I tried Foobar at WATMM's suggestion and haven't gone back. Now THAT'S how a media player should run.

Foobar for audio, VLC for video. Super low memory usage for Windows users without all the sleek looking BS that clogs up your processor.

[edit] Also, iTunes has always sucked for Windows, between it's memory hog coding, sluggish boot-up, and completely unwarranted Quicktime takeover of your system.

i'm still winamping on old hardrives. should really try out foobar. instead of playing stuff in MPC.

Winamp was awesome back in 2001-3, large skin maker collective. People that bugfixed what they did. Haven't checked since then.

Aye, v2.x was definitely where it was at back in the day. There used to be a site called Winamp Heaven that archived all the old installers from the alpha version onwards but unfortunately it looks like it's vanished now.

Itunes works with the remote thing i got with my mac, it's that sort of thing that keeps me happy.

this dan c guy seems like a fucking asshole

The speed of foobar is absurd. It can handle huge media libraries without a hitch. Real-time search, quick startup, putting my entire media library in a playlists takes nothing but a few ms... I've never seen anything match it on any platform. I use MPD on linux these days, but I miss the foobar speed.

I've got my HTC phone to control Foobar (and other stuff) using Unified Remote ( http://www.unifiedremote.com/screenshots ). Completely pointless due to the size of my room and flat but I did give a little excitable chuckle when I found that I could control the music coming out of my bedroom whilst sat on the toilet on the other side of the building
