JR, maybe you should shut the site down for a month and teach everybody a lesson! (seriously)... that will get your respect back, cos so many people here wouldn't know wtf to do with themselves. then they'll realise how much they need and rely on watmm, and might clean up their acts/posts, etc.

First off, I explained (although not in great detail, or naming others) why Boxing Day was banned - considering the overall reaction from this thread, I don't exactly see many shedding tears over his absence.

No, I'm not going to shut off the forum - Planet Mu and WARP did that at one point, and all it does is alienate users, and when it comes back it's worse, not better. Besides, there's no reason to punish people who aren't doing anything wrong.

We haven't had downtime in ages (at least since 2009) - and haven't had a data loss since 2006 or so (we pruned 500,000 records when we moved to this host to cut down on the load on the MySQL server).

Put your tinfoil hat away - he was banned using a 'ban' button, rather than the usual method of changing a user into the Banned member group. Thanks to your bringing it up, I corrected the oversight and now his account correctly shows Banned.

I will never arbitrarily ban someone on a whim - I like to think that for the most part I'm a fairly patient person who puts up with quite a bit before I finally take action. A good example of this is Boxing Day, whom I had several discussions with and told him to shape up before finally his stunt this morning was the last straw and he was banned. He was warned and couldn't behave himself in CHATMM, so he was banned from there, and I told him that the forums would be next if he kept causing problems, and well, there you go.
